How to fill?

How many quarts and what kind of ATF fluid?

Should I get an additive? B&M? Lucas? Gunk??? :p

I'm at 150K on original tranny, if this helps.

Oh boy...

My 94 5sp takes 6.3 pts of fluid (~100 oz). I have used synthetic ATF in mine (now 105k) but I'm starting to get some notchy shifting - only after the engine warms up.

I had a mechanical engineer friend of mine recommend 85 oz of ATF and 15 oz of 75W-90 (all synthetic) to correct my problem. He said this would help move the viscocity index number up higher for better performance at higher temps yet keep the low viscosity for cold running and tolerance requirements. Haven't tried it yet (read no time), but once I do, I'll let everyone know.

As far as how to fill it...I've used a long, clear tube connected to a funnel and had an "assistant" fill the funnel from the engine compartment (run hose from there to tranny) while I watched it go in from under the car. There may be a better way, but that's worked for me.

Many recommend using the Ford Friction Modifier (4oz) to help maintain the life of the synchros. I didn't put that in during the last change so maybe the synchros are going for me.

I'm interested if anyone has tried the lucas additive and had success.

Well, Good luck!
