removing egr help!

ok i have an 89sc it has an egr. im re-building my engine right now and ive found out that my egr valve / pipe is broken. rather than spengin like 200$ to get a new one can i remove the thing?

i dont care about gas milage cause the car isnt a daily driver


is there any harm in removing the thing?
 
is the just the tube broken? cuz that happened on mine and you can just buy the tube. i know there was a post of someone blocking the egr upper with the Ford Racing fuel pump block off(** I THINK!!) i dont quite remember the whole thing but i believe you will get check engine light(but not 100% sure)
