On my 90 XR7 when I engage the AUTO setting on the ride control after about 30sec to 1 min of no light the light will begin flashing. It flashes FOUR times and then goes out for about 10 - 15 sec, and then repeats this same sequence untill I engage the FIRM setting, where it repains lit like normal. What does this mean and is it a code for some ride control error? Thanks for any help.

It's telling you that the front drivers side shock actuator is acting up. They are fairly easy to get off but kind of a pain to align it back up to get it on. Had a similar problem with the other side, took it off turned it 180 deg and put it back on. No problems since. It doesn't always work though. You can find them fairly cheap in the classifieds.

Does the number of flashes indicate the which shock?

THANKS!!!!!!

Yes it does. Four times would be the front driver side. Three times would be the front passenger side. I don't know which is which on the rear. I never had a problem with the rear actuators.

My Firm Ride light will just turn on at random times. Then it turns off when I tap on the switch. *shrug*

mine is doing this too. Is it safe to keep it on auto ride?

The roads in my area SUCK! I always leave it on auto just because I don't like hitting holes and dips in these crappy roads with it being all stiff. Only time it's on firm is when I am on the highway. I ran my 89 like that for three years and only had one actuator go bad. Front driverside.
