well I got my heads off this weekend, both gaskets were gone and wow what a built up of sludge and crap in there,I think it might take me longer to clean everything out then the work to get them off.I did notice that the 2 middle bolts of the intake were loose, needless to say the intake gaskets were gone as well.Well the heads are off to the shop tommorrow for the crack test and after that it will determine what i'm going to do with them in ,if I keep them stock or to mildly modefiy them

get them ported, even if all you can afford, anything is better then stock, the stock heads on our cars are horrible.

Even a mild job, will aid with other upgrades further more then if you had stock many's

Get ready to spend some cash on this one thing you might look at is ARP head studs if you have the cash.

John,

I would agree that it would be wise to at the very least get some mild porting done while you're at this stage.

It will help considerably down the road if you plan to continue modding the car.

Les' car had lots of buildup too, but we were able to clean things up good as new. If you go back a few pages in the threads, you'll find the one regarding Les' HG replacement. I think there were a ton of pics posted there.

Best regards,

Sean

Thanks for the advice there Sean, true Iwill have a few more mods for my car in the future, but for this motor I think internaly I want to keep the motor reasenaly balanced,by that I mean I want the top end fresh of course with al this work but it has to match its tired(220,000km)and slimmy untouched bottom end.My opinion internally big big big differance from add ons like my 94 supercharger whitch by the way we need to talk about bearings and installation like soon time, for me it will be good enough thanks for the input though. John,

I really don't think that mild porting of the heads would result in any harm to your bottom end, but it would help you to take better advantage of the mods you've done already, and that you plan to do soon, like the '94-'95 style blower.

Give Chris a call at Cylinder Head Supply on Head St. in Dundas. He did a nice job for Matt at a very reasonable price. I don't have the phone number handy, but I'm sure they're the only business by that name on that street! ;)

We'll have to touch base soon regarding the blower, but at this point, I'm still a little leary about committing to replacing the cartridge bearings in our blowers.

Best regards,

Sean

John, the blower is ready for you. Drop me a line, I can drop it off on sunday, if you live near Greg Coleman(in Mississuaga). I'm still waiting for the 75mm throttle bodies to come in, then I can match up the inlet perfect to the t-body.

Thanks guys but i took my heads in allready to Brock at Hansons in brampton,my son has a connection there through his work and there ready,I pick them up tommorrow, they have new guides, seals, reground lifters, shaved 10 thou, crack test, top end gaskets-fel-pro and stretch bolts,8 bills with tax.Ryan I'm now not in a rush again(see I'm listening to you)for the supercharger cause i want to put the motor back the way it was to make sure everything is ok and see if there is any improvements before and after.and after tearing the motor down I think its going to be a snap flipping chargers around when i'm ready for it.

John,

Please tell me that you paid them eight bills for the whole damned job?!?!?!

If they charged you eight bills for that head work, then I'm sorry to say, but I think you got hosed!

Sean

Sean thats including gaskets and bolts, with tax thats $275 alone (that beat Ed's price for the fel-pro's) crack test is $45 a head and the rest is machine work and labor.Just did a 3.0 Taurus that was 7bills

Phewww! I thought you meant that you paid eight bills just for the head-work.

...That's not too bad. I think Chris at Cylinder Head Supply in Dundas charged around $250 all in to do the following:

-check for cracks
-mill the heads (if necessary)
-minor port work (for Matt, but mine were already ported)
-inspect valve guides
-three angle valve grind
-replace the valve stem seals

I think you could have got the gaskets through Matt for as good if not a better deal.

I'm just thinking that you could have used Chris and saved yourself $100 to $200 and got some mild porting done.

Regardless, so long as you're happy and the car performs to your expectations when it's all back together, then that's all that matters.

Best regards,

Sean

Yeah, I think I can get the complete Fel-pro upper gasket set for $179.00 I wish i knew you needed this stuff, as I have a set of Fel-Pro head bolts (brand new) at home.

Maybe next time! Uhh, I mean for the next guy who has to go through this unfortunete experience!

got my heads back today and boy they look sweet can hardly wait to see how they look back in. You know this is a sh-t job on these cars but I have to say, doing it myself the job has gone pretty good ,way easier than I first thought, now my only complaint is even with stock springs my back is killing me LERCHING over in that engine compartment. I feel sorry for those with lowered springs doing this job unless your a shorty.lol.I'm taking pics as I go along.John.
