I just thought I would expose this event to anyone who doesn't already know it exists. The link to the shoot-out wesbite is provided below. This will likey proove to be the biggest, and most significant performance-oriented SC meet to date. All the big guns will be there, from all corners of the US. The event is being held at Mid America Raceway in St. Louis. This event has provided ample notice, and will be displayed again closer to the actual date. This is a great time of year to race, and a great opportunity for Canadian SCs to be represented within the modified SC community.

At this point, I'm planning to attend.

There will be racing, and dynoing tuning at this event!!!! Although the drive may seem excessive, I will be driving to Ohio to meet up with XR7 Dave and several others before proceeding onto St. Louis. I've never seen this part of the US before, so I think it will be a great experience, especially to meet the guys from the central US, and the southwest, who will be in attendance.

12 hr. drive to St. Louis from my area.. flat farmland..all the way..
good news is Mo. has a 70 mph speed limit.
bad news is St. Louis is right on the IL./Mo. state line so you don't get to utilize it unless you cruise over to Kansas City(casinos)(4 hrs).
the Ohio and Illinois State Troopers and Sheriffs have no sense of humor when it comes to speeding...
I may be up for this as well
I would like to see all of the 300hp + cars

Bill,
I might just make the trip with you more so if I have the new go fast one:D

But I will let you know next month if it is for sure.

I'm penciling this in on my calendar. I don't know that I'll be up to driving my SC down to this, so Bill, perhaps if Krista decides to stay home for this one, I could ride down with you and split the costs. Let me know.

This is looking to be the best SC-related Event conceived so far!!!

Cheers,

Sean

Jason/Sean,

This looks like it will be a guys-only event, so I'd like you both to ride down with me, and we'll split the costs 3 ways. I won't be able to afford to take Krista and have a seperate hotal room etc, so I'm commiting to going regardless. Either way, she'll have classes Thursday and Friday, and have to work over the weekend.

This will proove to be the best SC meet to date, so we gotta be there!!!

Ohio freeways are heavily policed. And Toronto to St. Louis is about a 16 hour drive. Back in '99 it took us 12 hours from Toronto to Joliet.

well I have driven from Kitchener to St. Louis about 10 times in an 18 wheeler and it takes about 12 hrs from here not including border time and the shortest fastest route is not through Ohio

that would certainly explain the 16 hr drive

and yes mapquest is right on as far as the fast way to go

Estimated times on Mapquest assume you never stop - for anything. Including stop lights, border crossing, stopping for breaks, gas, food, it will be substantially longer than the 12:53 it quoted.

Looks like that Allen blower is pressurizing Varrik's ego in addition to that little 4.6 he has. One of you V6 guys needs to step up to his challenge to "pull beside". LOL

oh I forgot to mention I don't stop for anything but fuel and I could do it in less than 12 hrs in my t-bird:D there are no stoplights on interstate highways which you will be on for the entire trip once you get across the bridge
anyone want to race out there????

100/kmph in Ontario( we all know what that means:D) 70/mph in Michigan for cars(I forgot about the split speed limit) 65/mph for cars in Illinois(you can get away with 70-75/mph) plus radar detectors are legal in Ill. I think??

Wayne,

I agree that Mapquest is going by distance only, however, they are counting on the average person obeying the speed limit, within reason. As with anywhere I drive, including the drive to Carlisle, I go about 20km/h above the speed limit, minimum. This should make the estimate more reasonable. Carlisle says 8 hours, according to Mapquest. Even with stopping, it never takes us that long, and we use the exact route mentioned.

When you travel as a group, stopping is what kills you. Unless anyone else comes forward with their plans to attend, it looks like I'll be driving down alone, with Matteson and/or Wild taking turns driving. That should also speed things up a bit.

You MUST register by September 1st, 2003.

There is a "roll-call" thread for the event (unofficial) on the non-technical board for anyone interested.

I will bring the post back to the top later this summer.
