acceptable "boost" range ?

'92 5 speed - all stock. 117,000 miles. No major work done. Original plugs/wires/etc. Runs very strong - does not use any oil - however, seems a little "down" on power. Boost averages 7 psi - will go to 10 psi when throttled hard. What is the average boost ? Any ideas about being a little down on power ?

Unless you are way up in the mountains you should make 10-12psi. You should have 10 by the time you are at 3500 rpm. Things to check are all vacuum lines the Bypass valve (it should snap closed when you open the throttle hard) and the IC tubes. Sometimes the nuts that hold the tubes on the IC will work their way loose. Also do a search for “boost leaks”. You should find an article by Vernon Cradier. He has gone into it in great detail.
