Manual Tranny fluid - OK to use GM Synchromesh?

I was talking to a buddy of mine, and he said to try out GM's manual tranny fluid to see if it would cure any of my problem with the 5spd. I wanted to first post on the SCCoA about it to see if anyone else has done this. Also, is not the GM juice, what type of fluid should I get from Discount?

I've been using Synchromesh, and a bottle of Ford friction multiplier, for about three years now, and I like it.

When you used the Synchromesh, did you drain out all the fluid in the tranny? I know this seems like an asinine question, but I've heard of people having problems after draining older tranny fluid (mostly automatics tho). Also, this friction multiplier, what does it do?

Can I order the tranny fluid from Discount or only from GM?
