Can someone please help me out with my stereo in my 1989 Merc Cougar XR-7? It is the Ford JBL Sound System with CD. This link takes you to a diagram of how the system is wired:

And this link takes you to a detailed explaination of each of the connectors on the stereo, CD and Amp:
http://www.35ththunderbirdregistry.org/Radio/JBLColorCodes.htm
My problem is this: According to the Diagram on the 1st web page, there are RED wires coming from the CD, the Stereo, the amp and the sub-amp that are all joined together. If I look on the 2nd web page at the connector pin-outs, these RED wires are sometimes referred to as "GROUND" and other times as "POWER RETURN". Is power return the same as ground?
Next question: On the 2nd web page, one of the connectors on the stereo has a Or-LtBlue wire labeled "Receiver to foot control switch". Would this be the same wire that goes to the amp and is labeled "Radio ON Signal" on this diagram:
http://www.35ththunderbirdregistry.org/Radio/JBLAmpPinouts.htm
Thanks for all your help! I'm having to re-wire the whole sound system in this car with parts I've purchased from different sources, mostly on this club. And I'm not having much fun doing it!
