My daytime running lights have had a weird thing happening to them, Mr.Wild you saw this when you were here.
When ever i leave the car for a while or even just outta the blue with the key off and outta the ignition doors closed open locked unlocked what ever my DTRL will just come on and stay on.
I was outta town for a few datys and i came back and my car wouldnt start and i was like hmm.
Hooked up to my buddies car and right away it was back.
The stupid Daytime running lights came on.
They keep killing my battery.
Any idea as to what is causing this >?
I cant leave my car for more then a few days or the battery is chewed.
Thanks a Bunch
Nick.

Nick, it may the DRL module itself, they can be troublesome. Likely either that or the wiring going to it. A new module is around $100, but maybe someone has a good used module from a parts car you can buy. Alternately, there is a bypass plug you can put in the harness available from Ford, it's only about $10. We did this on mine after the 2nd module in about 3 years crapped out.

Ahh those by-pass plugs.. I love em :) I gave my DRL (working) to a Guy in the club over here to pass inspection with one of the cars he brought up from the states..
I now like it that the headlights aren't on when i'm driving.. and i could install relays for the headlights.. (heh other then park lights, there's no real load at the H/L switch now, even the fog lights have a relay:) ) I just got sick of blown Head light switchs, and when the High/low beam part of the multifunction switch melted it was like `F'n ford and there POS components that can't handle Crap...' and installed relays..
oh and to add.. the relays Made a big difference in the output of the lights... i did one without and one with and it's night and day :)
My Faith for ford will come back, when they start importing the cars from australia.. and LEAVING them As-is (minus converting to LHD) MMMM 5.4L DOHC UTE.. YUMMY

yes/no :)
High beam and brake light indicator won't work.. :)
Also it's located infront of the rad surport just under the drivers headlight

U mean on the dash i assume
Couldnt i cut the wires that control the DTRL ?
Basically acting as a Bypass ?
Thanks

yah the lights on the dash.. and cut the wires?? What's the difference between that and just unplugging it?? :)
You CAN cut the 4 wires that are need for the 2 Idiot lights and then connect them into pairs and it'll work as if, well as a USA car :) NOw what color wires do you do it to?? Like i said i go the by-pass (not a big fan of doing things that can't be reversed, easily )

That's what the bypass plug is for ... so the rest of the things in that circuit still work properly, the high-beam indicator, and the park brake indicator. I usually have one in stock at Fines ... or if you just want to grab one from your local dealership, the Ford p/n is F0FZ 14489 A ... they likely won't have one on the shelf, but can order it in for the next day.

Ed,
I'll take on of those bypasses also. I didn't know they existed, otherwise I would have bought one LONG AGO!
Add it to my last bill or something.... ;)

Odd enough
I was working on my car today while underneath it i was looking up into the front bumper and saw somthing just sitting there.
Pulled back the rubber crap and sitting in my bumper still plugged in by the way was my DTRL Modual !! Just fluke that i happened to see it there !! Anyways i tired unpluggin and cleaning it but it has bit the dust i think so for the time being i just unplugged it.
Like some of you had said the brake and HB lights dont work on the dash but hey , its better then killing my battery every 2 days ehehe. What would have caused it to break off and hang there i dont know.
Thanks 4 the time to read this
