What width can one go with a "45" sidewall without rubbing
front and rear?

in other words ???/45/17 is as wide as one should go.

I'm wanting to put 17x9" Cobra R's on my SC but need help
with deciding the right size tire. I do know I need to order
4.25 bolt pattern. And I plan on lowering the car 1.5" or so.

thx, Gary Beller

What width of rims are you going to order Gary ? If you're getting the 17x9" rims, go with 255-45-17 on all 4 corners, that fits fine. If you're getting the 7 or 7.5" width versions, take a look at 235-50-17, or 245-50-17.

Oops, I didn't mention that did I. 17x9's. I'm seems most
guys are puting 245/45/17's on.

I ran across a tire calculator on the website but I can't seem to
find it now. You might just know where it is.

thx, GB

255/50/17's on my 98 cobra rims..Dont reccomend em if you plan on running with passengers and a 1.5 drop"O)

Tire height calculator is on the FAQ page off the main index ...

So 255-45-17 will be about 0.6" shorter diameter than original, 245-45-17 will be almost 1 full inch shorter.

245-50-17 is almost identical to stock.

I saw a silver SC just west Fredricksburg, VA and it had 275/45ZR17's on it and they looked like they fit really well.
