View Full Version : SCCoO Track Day/Night (please respond)

This thread is to establish a date for us to have an official club track event at St. Thomas. Several people have mentioned that having a night racing event from 6-10pm on a Saturday night would be ideal, both for racing temps/humidity, cheaper cost to race at that time, and people not having to lose an entire day out of the deal.

We could aim for Saturday the 24th of August, or Saturday the 6th of September, as initial possibilities. The 30th Saturday is the Dasilva event on both days. If this is too soon for people to make plans, or be ready to race, please say so. If you are ready to race, specify which day would be more suitable for you to attend.

Personally, I think we should wait until September 13th, which is an all weekend test and tune venue, with no scheduled events (according to the schedule page on their website). This way, we have plenty of time to plan, people will not be away or on holidays, and the track will likely not be as busy. I know some people may not want to wait that long, but that is why we have the polling process. I'd say we'll need confirmation from at least 6 members who intend to race on a specific chosen date before sanctioning an official track day on the club schedule.

Post here as soon as possible. Many people have said it's time for a scheduled track day, so the wheels are now in motion. Let's make it happen!

Sept 6 or Sept 13 is good for me ... maybe I'll have my big t.b. installed by then.

Aug 24 weekend I'll likely be out of town.

I should be good to go on either September 6th or 13th.

Either date is good for me. If not for racing, then at least spectating/support (long skinny arms;) ). Might be good to plan for the earlier date and use the later as a "rain date".

Let's keep the votes coming.

Greg,

That's cool. Racing season and ball season will always run the same length, more than likely. I'm sure St. Thomas will let you race in December! (just kidding, mang)

We may move it to Sunday depending on what the track is doing anyway. I'll keep everyone posted. I'm gonna call them one of these days.

The event will be held at St. Thomas Dragway.

So far, it looks like the weekend of September 13th and 14th.

Bill McNeil

Greg,

I've already told you more than 10 times you can rent my slicks. Steve Pathay and several others have also mentioned wanting to do the same. Not a problem.

Everyone else,

I'd say this date will be a go, at this point. I'd like to see some more people sign on, because several people have mentioned to me they'll be attending, but haven't posted here yet.

Thanks.....

EVERYONE.

Let's consider this. If we make the track day a truly ALL DAY event, we could have Mr. Borda bring his BBQ and have a sort of picnic/track event at St. Thomas.

AS of now, we are still looking at the 14th of September, FULL DAY.

Yes but it didnt look like you were going to go on the 14th ,it looked as though you were going to go on the 13th and I would have been sol on the 14th for slicks.I know your renting out your slick when you go but know that your going on the 14 all is well:D :D

Bill - i'll book the 13th off work now, just in case. I can use that as a "last chance to mod" day if the 14th is decided. I need all the time I can get now if I want the tranny cooler, shift kit and rear-end in for then. It'll be close, but shouldn't be an issue, so consider me in.

Jason - thanks for the props, almost brings a tear to my eyes (altogether now, awwwwww - LOL!):D

Oh crap, just remembered, gotta balance my DOT's, too. Damn! All this just to smack the top speed limiter at the end of the track...maybe i'll just leave the stock gears in and compare from my previous 16.1.

There is nothing wrong Kendras car, just the lack of some things that make it legal to drive it on the streets. Thats all I should say about that, she can fill in the rest.

I hope to make it out for this event. Slicks, skinnies and all.:D

Oh, that Turbo Mazada of Sabby's friend, that will shock the hell outta of most of you. Anyone near stock had better not run it. Might get beat!!!

Sean,

I was out of work for 2 months this summer, and just before I got the job I have now, I took the insurance off my car, because I couldn't make my next payment. Now, I can't afford to put it back on yet.

But, if Ryan is going, I'll probably tag along with him to come out and watch.

As per the St. Thomas website, they are now having the "Truck Nationals" on Saturday, September 13th and Sunday, September 14th, which kinda ruins are plans to be there for what used to be a "test and tune only" weekend. Unless anyone knows how popular this event is, and what the likliness is that we'll see adequate track time?

The only other choices we have now are joining the F-Body crew on Saturday, September 20th (good chance to gain some respect for the SC boyz), or Saturday, October 11th, which is still listed as test and tune only.

Suggestions and comments welcomed!

Cayuga?

09-02-2003, 08:51 AM
I think we may want to keep October 11th open for a return trip to the track, but I really wish we could keep a date on the 14th of September. Does anyone know whether we'll get adequate track time if we still go that day? What's the schedule like for Cayuga that day? ...That might be kinda nice, since I've never run my car at Cayuga.

Best regards,

Sean

sabbySC
09-02-2003, 09:39 AM
Cayuga has OSCA street races that weekend, does anyone know anything about this? Judging from the writeup on the St Thomas website, I think the even they are having will be fairly big and we probably would not get alot of track time that day.

Bill McNeil
09-02-2003, 01:10 PM
I'm open to Cayuga if it is absolutely necessary, but I was trying to protect the club from people getting pulled over just outside the track and submitted to vehicle inspections and emission testing by the OPP. Even for those of us who will pass, I think the process would proove frustrating and inconvenient.

For those than don't mind waiting until October 11th, I think that would be ideal, but for those that would like to go earlier, let's choose a venue and date that does not have a corresponding event scheduled.

Jason Wild
09-02-2003, 02:34 PM
I was talking to some one that goes to Cayuga a lot and has never see any one pulled over the times he went. So I wounder how much is true about that. I'm willing to wate till oct 11.

When I was headed down to Cayuga a few weeks ago to instruct at the driving school, on the Sunday when an import event was scheduled for the drag strip, police were standing in the middle of Hwy 56, just before the intersection with Hwy 3, having a good look at passing cars. If I were to have a non-compliant car, I don't know that I'd want to risk a trip down there.

Sean, I think the officers have that figured out too ... from what I've heard, they usually set up on 56 near 3, also on 3 coming from the west, and on Kohler Rd. itself south of the track entrance ... so basically no way in to the track without passing one of the checkpoints.

....unless you come from the south. Been there, done that, smells like *****, but it works.

Honestly, Cayuga is convenient from a location standpoint, but I would like to point out a few things.
1) EVERYONE goes there. Last time I was there with Paul and Les and we paid $30 to get three runs....while we waited for 'Stangs, bikes, a couple of snowmmobiles and the imports. IMHO, used to be heaven, but just NOT a good time anymore.
2) do you REALLY want to chance anything with the police? Sounds like too much inconvenience to me. Even if your car was TOTALLY stock, i'm sure they'd find SOMETHING to second guess.
3) the guys i've talked to say that St. Thomas is always 2 - 4 tenths quicker then Cayuga - I don't think I need to go any further with this point.
4) The dessert at the restaraunt in London is GREAT! There is currently no "dessert" in Cayuga. (did you think i'd leave THAT out ?!?!) For the record I mean dessert as in digestible sweets for the tummy, not the "other kind" of dessert!;)

Bill - October, no problem, if it's moved back that far maybe I can run with my snow tires - LOL! J/K!!

Anyone interested in taking a day off work and going in the middle of the week?

SeanMatteson
09-05-2003, 12:59 PM
Ryan,

Is there a track that's open during the week? I was thinking of trying to hit St. Thomas one Friday night before the track day. If there are other options for during the week, I would consider it.

Best regards,

Sean

Bill McNeil
09-05-2003, 01:19 PM
St. Thomas is only open Friday night, Saturday day and night, and Sunday during the day, unless you rent the track from them. The reason we are going on a weekend is because most people are available Saturday and Sunday only. If anyone else wants to go outside of an official club day, by all means.

The only days I have off are during the week, so I'll be taking a day off just to join everyone, and conform to the schedule that most people work with (Mon-Fri).

As of this moment October 11th looks to be a go. Don't get me wrong, I'd rather go sooner also, but the cooler temps, lower humidity and a chance to do several runs in one day are worth waiting for.

SeanMatteson
09-05-2003, 02:20 PM

I just hope a firm date/time/location stays firm.

Sorry about all the confusion. The St. Thomas website conveniently only updates their main page, and not the schedule page, which has made the date selection difficult until now. On their schedule page it has said "test and tune only" for a certain weekend, meanwhile the front page will mention a MAJOR event for those same dates. Very strange. As of right now, mark your calender for October 11th, at 11:00am.

Anyway, the venue won't change, so it will be St. Thomas.
