View Full Version : CNC Billet P/S Pulley

Nettlesd

Ok, folks, I have pictures of what they will look like. It's a 2-piece design with a press on steel hub and a CNC Billet pulley that will screw onto the hub. The company is willing to produce other pulley designs (that's the nice part about it being 2-piece) so that you can change the look of the pulley if you wish.

The pictures don't show the threads on the hub or pulley.

The price will be between $125-$135 for 10 units. I'm taking orders now so post here if you want one.

Updated News:

I've got the 10 orders. So, anyone wanting one better order soon. The shop is hoping to have a prototype sent to George by next Monday. Then, if George gives his approval, the shop will machine the rest.

Also, Bill McNeil, the shop will weight the original pulley and make it lighter. Now, that's assuming it doesn't comprise the integrity of the pulley. He really wants everyone to be happy.

Vary cool idea you have there I only have one thing to ask what would be the ruff HP gain or the weight of the new pulley.

Nettlesd
08-07-2003, 03:23 PM
I have no idea. The stock P/S pulley weights 2 pounds so I would think it would weight a little less than that.

I'm really doing this for cosmetics, in that, I like to show my car as well as others around here. Anything else is just gravy.

Hey Duane, are they going to do differnt colors for us?? Are they going to match the other pulleys your working on there?? If they are put me on for One for now...

Richard,

As far as colors, yes, but cost wise it's cheaper to do them all anodized red and so on. We did talk about it but most anodizing shops have a minimum, which is, usually $50 per color. For now, the face will be polished unless everyone wants theirs anodized red then it would be cost effective to send them out to be anodized. Make sense?

Everything from this shop will match if, and only if, we can get the 10 units sold. I can't convice the shop to do other things if I can't even get the P/S pulley to sell.

Cool, polished is good for me, put me in boss... Is there anyway to seal those so they don't turn into just normal old aluminum looking and will stay polished?? Just a thought, mine is a daily driver ya know... The 35th is going to be the garage queen, when I get to that point I'd want them that electric looking blue.... :D :D Just wishing I know!!

Richard,

That's a possibility. This shop has been looking into some process that will keep the luster of the part after it's been polished. Not sure where they are on it. I'll check on it. It's been something I've been meaning to ask him once he told me about it.

Good question. The shop owner did tell me that once the CNC program is written, they can always make more since the program is saved. The question is, at what price. I would expect the price to increase if it's just one at a time.

Payment can be made by PayPal or calling the company directly and giving them your credit card number.

I will post the details here when George has finished his testing. I would anticipate production will start two weeks from now and you can place your order then.

Is there any more of a price brake with 15 people?

Nettlesd
08-12-2003, 12:49 PM
Not that I'm aware of. Anyway, most group purchases end up with less people actually stepping up to the plate when they have to part with the money. Either way, I have 10 confirmed orders and that's what I needed for the company to make them.

Jim Cook

Hey George,

Can you pull out that camera of yours and post some pictures?

Duane,

Is this pulley intended to be a quick change thing or permanent? That would be more important to me than the lighter weight and cool looks, which would be a bonus IMO. If this pulley is screw-on, how is the shaft be immobilized for removal?

Nettlesd
08-18-2003, 05:27 PM
I'm hoping to take some pictures tonight if they are done with it. The shop started on the pulley yesterday but didn't get it done. They had a few problems with the machine and a new machine operator. The shop owner told me he would finish it up tonight if possible. I'm meeting him at 6:00 p.m. so I'm hoping he will have it done.

It will be a quick change pulley. The hub wasn't machined all the way when I saw it and I'm not sure what the shop has come up with as far as holding the hub while knocking the pulley loose.

Don't worry, eveything will work right before the shop releases it.

A quick change power steering pump pulley??..Why??

Jim Cook
08-19-2003, 08:58 PM
Gee, it might be nice if the pulley could be removed without having to pull the intercooler first, to make enough room to get a puller in there or provide the room necessary, if you choose to move the whole bracket. That in turn would make make changing a water pump and perhaps the P/S pump easier and faster. Also would give clean access to the oil pressure sender for plumbing a real gauge. The lighter weight to free up a few HP and the neat design aren't too shabby either...

Nettlesd
08-19-2003, 10:02 PM
For someone going to the track and wanting that extra bit of e.t in only 5 minutes. The quick change will allow you to install a 5%, 10% or even a 15% for that extra power you might need to...oh wait, I'm thinking about the quick change pulley for the blower.

The project really just started out as a nice replacement CNC billet pulley. Concerns arose when someone might be taking off the pulley more than once since it's an interference fit on the shaft. That's when the shop owner came up with the 2-piece design and away we went. He's really been excited about the part and he's tried to please everyone who had a concern.

I saw the finished project tonight and I'm sure everyone will like what they see.

Stay tuned, more to come.

George ended up sending the shop a P/S pump so they could get exact measurements of the shaft for the pulley's hub. That took an extra 3 days. Besides the shop's core business, I had the shop make me up a set of custom wheel spacers so that took up a little more time.

Hang in there, it's coming.

Yes, they are ready to accept payments. Calling the shop can confirm what payment they can take.

They do have PayPal and I can update the listing to reflect, although, you would still have to call them to find out how much shipping would be.

I don't want to confuse people in thinking they can just use PayPal and be done with it. The prices don't relect shipping and that's something you will need to find out from the shop.

The shop will provide you with a PayPal account once you place an order and get shipping squared away.

In the future, the shop is looking into doing an Order page that will include everything.

Big and Blown,I polished my idler pulley arms buy putting paint stripper
on them. And then polishing the on my grinder with a buffing wheel on
the grinder. The idler pulley arms were the easiest peice to polish on the SC.
The castings are fairly smooth, they don't need much of any sanding to get
to the polishing stage. It takes about 15 minute for each idler to polish.

Damon no I don't have my pulleys.I was just bull ******* to get you going.

Was the weight posted (both pieces), or did I miss it somewhere?

What is the difference between satin and standard finish?

Nettlesd
09-17-2003, 07:51 AM
The weight was just under 2 pounds for the pulley and hub. It may weight a little bit less since the pulley has changed some since it was last weighted.

A Satin finish is what the part would look like after all the machining is done on the part. The part is not polished or anodized but is left in it's original machined state.

joenintiesc
09-17-2003, 10:10 AM
Is there a deadline for ordering?

Is there a discount if you order three tensioner pullies and the ps pulley/hub together?

Just to clarify the difference between finishes- so "satin" would be like a "rough" finish, and polished would be "smooth", but there would be no difference in the color?

Thanks!

$15 discount when ordered together.

Correct.

Doug Franklin
09-17-2003, 12:45 PM
What ever the finish I would want them anodized clear for protection against oxidation. Clear anodize is a little deeper than color, I understand from my company.

To clear it up what do I do to get anodize?

Nettlesd
09-17-2003, 01:00 PM
Anodizing is only available on the tensioner pulleys in Red, Blue and Black. The PS pulley only comes in a polished version or a Satin finish.

Clear anodizing of any pulley, PS pulley or tensioner pulley, is left up to the consumer.

We had a set back on the power steering pulley. Thomas A tried to install the hub over the weekend and found out it won't press on. I assume Heartland didn't get the taper correct so that will need to be changed. I spoke to the shop and they are going to correct it. Thomas has even volunteered to send them a pump if needed so that they can get it right.

Doug Franklin

Wonder if they need several pumps to get the tolerence right?

Nettlesd
10-21-2003, 09:13 AM
That's what Thomas also thought but he tried it on several other pumps he had and none of them worked. He thinks the diameter of the hole is just too small and it just needs more machining done to it to get it right.
