Normal? What's wrong with all of the other meets we've had? Don't think they've been normal?! Guess we need to work on finding something halfway between you guys and us again, eh? If you guys really wanted to make the trek down here, we could still do the indoor electric go-karts near here (It's about 10 minutes from King of Prussia in PA, for a point of reference.)

PS: I DO like the pic Dennis!

Yes but our track meets are always so suspense filled.. Like whos gonna run what times.. What car will make it there... What am i gonna hit on my way back to the pits.. I figure a nice normal meet in a safe prking lot or mall would be much safer for my car (i dont need anymore bodywork!!) I was thinking of that NASCAR simulator thingie at the Palisades Mall.. If only Russ could tell us where the mall is then we would be set

Actually, I just passed by there on Monday on my way to a deposition in Suffern. Its literally 5 minutes over the TZ bridge, which is ~20 miles from the Whitestone/Throgs Neck bridges. Figure 30 minute drive with traffic.

In addition to the Nascar simulator (which looks pretty cool), they have the Ferrrari video game which is also a lot safer than those damn go-karts.

Since no one is volunteering a date, how's Dec 25th sound? I know some of you might be busy then, so how about Jan 1 as a "rain date"? lol

ThunderChik

thundrchik was banned, so I'm now ThunderChik, no difference. But anyways, it seems like everyone wants to do this so lets set a date. Do you guys want to do this before or after christmas? And I assume that the weekends would be better for everyone. Dennis, why don't you pick a date? : )

Dennis, You want to go to a mall the weekend before Christmas and park your SC safely? Somehow I don't think the two go hand in hand.
Maybe we could tie Micah to the bumper and he could be the guard dog while we play? Of course it would cost us a few Burrito's from Taco Bell to feed him and we'd have to figure out a way to keep him from peeing on our wheels.
I know quiet a few people who have gone to the NASCAR place at the Palisades and have had a blast.
Keep us posted.

December 16th is bad for me. I have plans with a friend to go to NYC for my birthday. Also, after christmas might be better, because of obvious reasons.

Say you guys arent talking about Daytona USA 2 right as the NASCAR simulator? Cause if thats the case ill smoke all of you ;) Russ have you even tried the Ferarri game? I wanna see you make 2 laps in the Monza track without time running out.. Its pretty realistic as when u try to powershift the gears become very notchy.. Anyhow since everyone is so overwhelmingly against having it b4 XMas then how bout we schedule it the week after New Years? Or does that not bode well with you Alicia? Do you have any plans for that day? Will we have to reschedule it again? And if anyone else is interested Jillian's in Huntington has VR Games.. The ones where they lock u in a nice confining little chamber and u play Mechwarrior... Possibly have a nice meet up there one of these days too so i can whoop all ur azzez in that also :)

The week after New Years day sounds good to me. You don't have to reschedule just for me : ). Everyone was against the week before christmas. The mall would be crazy!

After New Years is better for me. I work retail and this is such a fun time. I'm actually off on the 16th.
I love the sanity of the "I GOTTA HAVE IT FOR MY KID!!!" mentality of some parents.
It would be a blast to get together. You know theres a pretty big space on the floor there.....think you could do a few donuts without breaking something?

I'll be skiing the first week(end) after New Years, and in Vegas on the 2nd for the meet. Plus, its fuggin cold in January, who the hell is gonna wanna hang out outside and look at cars in sub-zero temperatures. Not to mention that if there's snow on the ground, no SC is gonna be able to make it there (except my AWD model ;) ).

If you can't tell, I'm all for a July meet though :D

12-06-2000, 10:43 AM
Well, I guess now I'm definitely coming, no two ways about it. Once the woman speaks, it's final. :)

So you're going to make me drive all that way just so you can blame me if we get lost? How sweet! I'll remember that. . .

Anyway, yeh, I guess I'll do me best to make it. I will definitely need some BETTER idea of where this place is though - I haven't gotten a real good answer yet. Maybe if someone could give me directions once I get to the Tappan Zee, I could go from there.

ThunderChik
12-06-2000, 11:58 AM

The Tappan Zee crosses the HUdson about 18 miles north of the George Washington. Its also known as I-87 which later becomes the NY Thruway.

You can reach it via the Major Deegan (the highway that runs past Yankee Stadium) for NYC/LI folks. Take I87 North till you hit the Tappan Zee (no toll for going northbound) and its either the 1st or 2nd exit after the bridge (the mall will be on your left). The exit name is like "Mall Road", hard to miss.

For upstaters and NJ/PA people, try this. Go north thru Jersey however you like to the GWB and hop on the Pallisades. Go north on Pallisades about 20 miles to exit 9S (I think) which connects you to the NY Thruway. Take NY Thruway south 1 or 2 exits and the mall is on your right (exit is called Mall Crossing road or something equally inventive).

I'm sure you can get better directions off www.mapquest.com but its really hard to miss seeing as how its visible from the highway.

Once you get there, its up to you guys to figure out how to find each other :D

superc94
12-06-2000, 10:17 PM
If you head up from Jersey then take the GSP all the way to the NY thruway south...follow New York City / Tappan Zee bridge signs. The mall is on your right after exit 13. Nascar is on the 3rd floor by the foodcourt i belive. If you heading up the palisades then its Exit 9E (close Russ) to the Thruway south.

Aw, com'on now. Driving through Jersey to New Yawk ain't so bad. If I can drive to Etown, thanks to Lee Y. leading, you can make it here.

The Tapan Zee Bridge is a 3 mile extension bridge that coupled with the thruway on either side is Westchester County's rival to the LIE for status as a mobile parking lot. For as long as I can remember (at least yesterday), the TZ Bridge has had roadwork done to it.

The Palisades Mall is a beautiful monument to sinking architecture. That particular area of Rockland has been known to become a small lake when it rains.
As far as directions, Tim is giving you the way to go.

Maybe Tim could scout a location where we could all meet before going in.

SC Ya there!!!

Alright, alright, I know how to get through NJ to get to NY, just didn't know where this place was in NY. Looking at my map, looks like exit 9 and 13 are the same thing. Coming from the GSP, it's only really the one or two exits. IF I hit the Tappan Zee, I've gone too far on 87/287, right? And I'll just see the mall? Works for me. . .

Michael Hoddy

Pat,

You live in PA, right?

I live in North Central NJ, and used to live 3 minutes from the Palisades Mall.

If I were you (assuming you're coming from PA), I'd come over on Rte 80 or 78, pick up Rte. 287 in NJ, and go north until you hit Rte 87 south at the NY border. Go down 87 South to Exit 12 (I think), which dumps right into the Palisades mall parking lot. It's right off the highway there. The GSP and Rte. 95 suck because of tolls and traffic. Generally, you can go pretty fast on 287 (75-80 mph is what everyone goes on there). You just have to watch for the stupid local cops up in the Oakland/Mahwah area, who are out to make a buck on the interstate ("serve and protect," my ^$$!). It may seem a little longer mileage-wise (I'm not sure), but it's way faster, and the only way I go up to Rockland.

Um...AAHHHHHH!!! yea, that helped me none what so ever...how about the New Jersey Turnpike? Is there anyway I can take that? GSP is VERY far away from my house. I'm just south of Trenton...hope that helps somebody help me : )
Thanks,

Alright, listen missy. . .

I'm only 20 minutes from you and I've figured out where this is. I'll swing by and I'll be nice enough to let you follow me, k? Then when you get lost, it'll be my fault.

ThunderChik

That's a slick way to meet the lady and have her following you all over hell and gone. And, if you do hit the Tappan Zee Bridge, can I have first pick of the leftover parts?
There is an exit right off the southbound thruway that is at the mall. Your other marker is Rt 303.
Oh, and by the way, if you do hit the Tappan Zee Bridge as your heading down the thruway at least you're on the shallow side. On the Westchester side it's a long enough drop into the Hudson to have your life flash before your eyes several times.
