In a completly unrelated note, I went to the Lincoln LS "shootout" today - got to test drive a LS8, 523, ES300, 300M, & C280 around a "handling" course and a (short) timed auto-x. Yours truly posted a 16.03 lap time, beating the next place finisher by a whopping 2.78 seconds (it helps when your competition has blue hair...)

Anyway, now I am hooked on auto-x and am looking for volunteers to go give it a shot (real auto-x's, not this BS). They run ~ 2 weeks and I figure Ill rent a Neon since taking an SC to an auto-x is like bringing Micah to a straight bar...

Hehehe, well, the Neon should actually do really well in the auto-x. I've done some in my area. I would look into a small VW or something along those lines, like a GTI or something. They're great on those courses. Now tell me how many old VWs they had there that would go around a turn and bring the rear wheel off the ground? All the old VW do that; if it's not on 3 wheels, you're doing the auto-x wrong. So much fun! How'd the LS do?

Surprisingly well, but it did cheat. #1, it was the LS8 vs a bunch of 6 bangers and #2, it had the "sport" package (225/50 17s) vs. the other cars' stock wheels, whose biggest were 205/60 15s. But ignoring those variables, it definately hustled around the course well. (the worst of the bunch was the Lexus. Yeech.)

As for the rentals - no one rents Rabbits anymore so a Neon is the best I can do :) They run fairly frequently at the Meadowlands, if you feel like schlepping up North...
