For the first time in over 3 years the SilverBird ran Sat., smoothly, with and without boost!

Thanks to Mike's EXCELLENT work and assist from Al, she fired up after just 2 revolutions.

It's not finished yet - a bunch of odds and ends to do, and the tuner was DOA. Mike doesn't really want to drive it much without the proper file in, and I totally agree after the last fiasco in Riverside. But, it did have to at least go 'round the block to thoroughly warm it up so it could be checked for temp, tightness and leaks - there were none except for exhaust at the collectors, which Mike fixed Sun.

She sure sounds great and moves quick, even with only moderate throttle. Mike was definitely impressed with the brakes which is one of the things I'm looking forward to testing myself. Al says the way I drive I'm gonna need them. Ah, ever hear about glass houses Al?

If Rich gets us the replacement tuner within a couple of days, Mike can revel in his empty (temporarily) garage and I hope to put the first 500 miles on it this coming weekend. :p

Then the next 1,000 within a couple of weeks. Driving down to see the "kids" in San Diego to show it off will help. ;)

Then I've got to get to the track to figure out how to launch it. Anybody up for Carlsbad or Fontanna towards the end of next month? :)

If it has your device listed, and you're on a fast net line, it's pretty slick about loading it up. BUT, if it doesn't have it listed, it's way worse than Windows 3.x.

Next time down, I will definitely bring my Sony, which uses floppies for storage. It may be a little bulky and a little more hassle than memory blocks, but it doesn't need an interface or drivers.

Paul sez he's gonna be out in a few weeks, so when he's here, maybe we can do a Sat. Night Drags at CA Raceway.

Mike's still looking for that .1 to the 13's, Aaron sounds like he's up for Fontana and you know you can't keep Al away. Then there's bound to be some of the regular crew and the newer guys looking to meet up.

When Paul nails down the time he'll be here, I'll post the particulars for the track. ;)

Well, I have strict orders, Mandi's Bday is Sept 29th so I have to the stroke of midnight or "dont bother coming";). I am shooting to leave here on the 13th but may stretch it out to the 18th. I will be spending about a week in St Louis to make some parts and possibly attend the shootout, however, my departure from there will be affected by who attends the event. I would prefer to caravan toward the west coast with other SCers. I should know more in a week or so.

Im up to attend the track, but don't plan on me racing for a while. I have two goals with the car at present, first is to get better than 10 MPG on the highway cruising then to add a much bigger blower. We will see about dragging after those are met. Mandi just informed me this evening that super is around $2.60 a gallon and at that price, I will be writing a tuner file to run the car safely on regular gas for a bit as economy will have to be more of a concern than speed for the time being.

Get that thing on the dyno Lee, I'm sure you are as anxious for #s and times as the rest of us.
