Writing for an original owner of an 89 SC who won't trade cars; I see why now after reading the SCCoA website and the HR SC web site--fantastic car! His needs a paint job--it's red--I see how beautiful the local folks have made their "baby" appear w/ all the mods--underhood and exterior--they've made. I'm especially partial to Mike & Rick's red ones and Paul's blue one!
Pretty savvy friend who suspects the Ignition Control Module under the hood has failed. We've ordered and tried out 8 different modules; none will start car.
No dealer/mechanic diagnostics have been made; we're "shade tree-ing" it based upon his past experience with his SC which may be incorrect.
Re-install old module and sometimes would start; sometimes wouldn't. This has been on-going for 9 months now.
Currently, nothing will enable engine to start when cranked.
His request is that someone w/ a working Ignition Control Module come over to swap out to see if their ICM will start his engine. Also would like to test the latest ICM purchased from Auto Zone to see if that one works or not in test vehicle.
HISTORY:
Some years ago, the ICM was replaced w/ an after-market one that worked for a number of years.
About a year ago, the SC engine would very infrequently "buck" like it was running out of gas, lose power and then recover before the car rolled to a stop.
Next, it would start cold and drive--city or hwy just fine. Then, when he came out and tried restarting, it infrequently would crank, but not start--no pattern descernable. Let it sit a bit (5 to 45 minutes) and it'd then crank/start... didn't seem to be a vapor-lock problem either.
Currently cranks, but no start using either the "old" ICM or any of the 9 "new" ICM's purchased and tried.
LOCATION:
Car is located in a parking lot off Battlefield Blvd about 4 blocks north of Bypass 168.

We both will be most appreciative of all assistance to get his car running and back on the road again after 9 months!
Thanks!
