Really appreciate the TECH article on resetting the oil change lite indicator . My VMM was missing when I picked my SC up. Recently got a VMM pluged it in and it works. The oil change lite is on so it is gonna have to be reset. One more experience I am looking foward too. Is there anything else I should now about the VMM? Is there a reason a person would remove the VMM ? My car is all stock is it possible that it did not come with a VMM? There was no delete plate.

Thanks.

I can't help on much, but I think Josh (supercharger95) and myself will end up removing it for room for gauges.

Yes, some of the SC's came without VVM's. My 93 didn't have one. The delete panel is just plastic and it's posible that somehow it got broken or just fell out!

Some guys remove it to make room for stereo equipment or extra gauges too .........

A lot of don,t seem to work properly. They will indicate that you need to change your oil at about 1500 miles. The one in my 89SC has this problem. It appears that the problem is in the oil temp sensor. My sensor has the temp portion of the sensor open. It always indicates that the oil is cold. The VMM must accelerate the mileage count when the oil is could. If you do a search you can find some of the other problems with the VMM. I also have a problem withthe coolant level, It indicates that the coolant is low very randomly. My coolant sensor wires shielding is cracked in the tank.

I have herd that about the oil change some guys were saying every 1200 miles or so. I will do a search. Makes me wonder if ford really thought you should change the oil that often. Manuel says to use castrol synthetic 5-30. Thats a interesting about your sensors.

Forgot to mention that there is lots of diagnostics built into the VMM. If you have access to a service manual it will explain how to run the tests. I have a scanned copy of the diagnostic if you need them. Can't post them because they are to large of files.

I did a search and saw a thread where some said the sensors wern't on their car so the vmm could not work correctly. I checked mine and the sensors are there. I don't have a service manuel. I don't even have the owners manuel. I bought it used from a dealer saved it from the crusher . Got a great deal at the time. I use a chilton. Didn't see any info in it.

I can't believe I actually got to this level....

I put my vmm in and it works .. I reset the Oil change lite It flashed and the now quit flashing and a green bar came on .... YES SO cool...

I drove a SC for years didn't even know they( VMMs) existed till I started checking out SCCOA..

Now I got a VMM next time I roll it will be vmm equiped...

The four lights next to the main oil change??

windshield oil
radiator fuel

Are these just for fluid level or what? I didn't get a owners manuel it was also gone when I bought the car..

My oil light says low next to it.. I haven't went anywhere yet so I'm hopeing it goes out next time I drive.... Is this what you are talking about GARoese someting to do with temp?

The four light a re level lights. The low should be indicating that the oil is low. There is a level sensor on the pass side of the oil pan. It is a combo deal with the oil temp. It price of the sensor last time I checked at the dealer it was $130. I guess I was lucky I got an Owners manual and picked a service manual on Ebay. Ebay usually has a lot of service and owner posted. I like a lot of other SC owner experience that the oil change does not work correctly. I have found that the oil temp sensor does not work at all. This gives a cold oil condition to the VMM, and I believe that the VMM sppeeds up the the time because of this.

My car is a 89 so I don't think I have an oil temp sensor....Correct me if I am wrong...I might be overlooking it....

I am pleased to report the my VMM is working great....SO far... All lights are out and and the low fuel light came on under a 1/4 tank but the check gauges has not it usually comes on when the fuel guage needle enters the red....

Now I am wondering if the oil should be changed after 1,500 miles??? I put castrol syntec full synthetic in 1,400 miles ago and it is still plenty full according to VMM and the dipstick but it does appear to be rather dirty and wornout looking compared to 700 miles where it only looked 1/2 worn out or at least it had some new color instead of being black like it is now.... Is the forced induction of supercharging and high compression the reason why this 5-30 oil has worn out so fast????

My car also is an 89 and it has a BAD temp sensor. I believe that is why the oil change lite comes on at 1400 miles. If you send me an email address I can send you a copy of the VMM diagnostics. Leave me a private message with the email address. It is to large of a file to post.
