This afternoon we lost Jim D Sr to a hit and run driver.
As most of us know Jim Sr was big asset to the N/Cal gang.
Jim Jr is going to need a little time to straighten out his affairs.
Lets hope he will be able to make it back to us.
Jim,
Take the time you need and if theres anything you need from myself or Wendy you know how to get a hold of us.
If we can't help I'm sure that there are some N/Cal folks that might be able to fill in the blanks. Where all here Jim.
From myself and Wendy.........our condolence...Take care.

Jim, I'm so sorry to hear this terrible news. Please accept my sincere condolences.
I really enjoyed talking with your dad. He was like an encyclopedia of drag racing. I always appreciated all the tips and advice he gave me from his wealth of knowledge. We'll really miss him.
Hang in there, hillbilly brother.

Jim,
You've been attacked many times on these forums for whatever reasons, but you've stuck it out and continued to be a leader in this community. The loss of your father is tragic, and to be honest I can't even begin to know what it is that you're going through right now. I can only wish you and your family the strength necessary to get through this and continue on once again.
My sincere condolences, Jim! You're in my thoughts, and my prayers.
Respectfully yours,
Sean

Jim,
I'm very sorry for your sudden loss. I lost my dad at 44 with a hole in his heart. He had chest pains one day, so he went to the hospital. They gave him a nitro pill, he went to sleep and never woke up. Unfortunately, I know about losing a father too soon. My deepest condolences to you and your family.

Jim,
Your father was and will always be an important part of your life. He had an impact on all who spoke to him, as shown by this outpouring of affection. I had what was a very memorable conversation with him at Famoso at which time he taught me quite a bit about traction off the line. This like the thousands of lessons he passed onto you will live on. Take the enthusiasm, the love of life he had and make it your own. It is difficult at these times to see that he will exist as long as a part of him is held close to your heart and his ideas are reflected in your actions. So take with you a piece of his personality and make it your own. Be proud, be strong, and be willing to let the best of him shine through in you.

I'd like to share my memories of Mr Demmitt Sr.
I first met him at the SCCoSW's Vegas meet - he was coaching Jimmy through a killer burnout in the parking garage. He was much, much nicer than I expected after having a taste of several "competitive natured" posts.
He gave me a ton of pointers the next day at the track.
The next day at Hoover Dam when the cars were parked and we went on the damn tour I think he truly realized that being the fastest was not the Vegas meet was all about. . I also remember standing at the middle of the dam with Mr. Demmitt and John Shelton walking up, looking over the edge, and saying "damn" - Mr. Demmitt and I laughed our asses off.
Kelly Simons and I visited the Bakersfield meet for the last 2 years. This year I watched Mr. Demmitt proudly coach Jimmy on several runs. We talked about everything from the famous O-rings, performance chips, to roll-cages. I can tell you one thing for certain - this man loved the Super Coupe. He talked about it being ahead of it's time and the timeless lines the car has.
I remember having dinner with everyone that evening, telling jokes and laughing like no tomorrow. I remember Mr. Demmitt loved his coffee - he must of downed a whole pot. In the parking lot after dinner he explained in detail how to change the rear mains on my 460 RV engine. Sadly, that was the last time I spent with him.
My heart hurts for all that know Mr. Demmitt. My prayers are with Jimmy and his family. You can be assured that my next burnout is in his honor.
IMO, Mr. Demmitt's competitive spirit has brought a lot to the SC community and he has earned my sincerest honor.
Godspeed Mr. Demmitt.
Sincerely,
Kurt Sunday
Well writen Kurt. On behalf of Jim Jr and all the N/Cal Thank You!

Jim Jr,
No one person can ever experience all that life has to offer although your Father did experience much of what life has to offer. It is only through sharing - experiences, feelings, insights - that we can hope to grow beyond our own meager lifetime.
I am glad that your Father had the opportunity to share his experience with us.
I am thankful to have met your Father, and had the opportunity to not only talk about cars but life in general. I too like Kurt had several occasions where we as a group had some light hearted times with you and your father. No one will ever be able to replace your Father, which is a good thing.
I am glad that he lives in my memory.
Laterz,
D Rainer
