Well, here's an update on my ongoing tire saga.
For those of you that don't know, I just (2 weeks ago) purchased a set of 4 Kumho Supra Ecsta 245/45/17 tires for my Cobra R rims for the Teal Beast. Well, I got them all in, went to Pat McGrath Chevyland, had them mounted and it said 2 were bad. Well, I called TireRack and they sent me one more (I only mentioned one bad at the time).
I took that 1 tire to Allen Motor in CR for a "second opinion" and had them mount that one on. They also ran the other 3. They had all 4 (including the new one) being bad.
These are being balanced on a Hunter GSP9700 wheel balancing system which does a "road force test". All of the wheels are showing excessive Force Variation, which basically means it could be out of round, could have hard spots in the sidewalls, stuff like that. And high enough that standard balancing can't fix. In the guys words at Allen, "These tires are all junk."
Well, I called Kumho and explained my situation and they said to call TireRack and tell them that all 4 tires were out of round and to have them send me 4 new ones. So, I did. I have 4 new tires on the way, shipping from a different warehouse (South Bend instead of Louisiana), so hopefully they are from a different batch run that might have been bad before. Who knows.
Anyway, I'll be getting these mounted up this weekend and we'll go from there!
