A 1.3litre rotary engine w/ a 6-spd transmission and 238hp!!! Why can't Ford do somthing like that for us? I mean... beef up the Focus a bit cause it ain't cutting it or bring back the Probe w/ a better engine and some turbos or sumthing!!!
geeze....
-Chris
PS: Did they ever stop production on the Probe? I never heard about it but haven't heard about any new ones?

Actually the SVT Focus with it's minimal 170hp  is getting rave reviews from magazines because of it's nimbleness and it's total package effect. Yeah the SRT-4 is faster but they complain about it's feel and it's lack of anything special on the interior.

I wish they'd bring the Focus RS over from Europe.

Yea, I'd like a turbocharged 3-door Focus. That would be pretty nice. Black, SVT rims, tinted.

They're just FWD but they are turbo'd even the current SVT has had cosworth's fingers in the middle of it... But the RS would be sweet :) I wish it was AWD... My eyes are on the WRX STi right now... Or the 2005 Legacy B4 280hp turbo Legacy coming out next year.

Ford has always been good at delivering a GOOD OVERALL PACKAGE..Now companys such as Chevy or Dodge go from one extreme to the other..,Its what keeps Ford in buissness

"It's what keeps Ford in Business"

except for the fact that they are in about last place with sales and are banking there future on the success of the new F-150. Ford is not in good shape at all.

Well, all the car manufacturers are in trouble right now, not just Ford. GMAC finance is doing a lettle better than Ford Credit and Daimler Chrysler's revenues are actually lower than Ford. So, it's not just Ford in bad shape. People just don't want to buy cars right now.

Sorry, just had to add that in.

And ford focus is still a car and driver 10 best (for like the 4th year in a row) and they're one of the best selling cars in the world. They're not doing too bad. Like Aaron said everyone's having problems these days.

Faster, but...

Yeah....and it looks like p00p! I'd rather lose to the thing than have to suffer driving around in it!

The short-lived New Edge Cougar ('99-02) was basically the replacement to the Probe. While it is also only front wheel drive, there is a company in after-market company in Arizona that makes a turbo-charger for the Duratec 2.5 l that bumps it from 170 hp to 310 hp.

In Europe they used to have a version of the Mondeo (same as the Contour/Mystique) available in 4-wheel drive, and Cosworth used to offer the European version of the Escort in 4-wheel drive. I think the designator for the Mondeo performance was ST200 or ST220 or something.

You might check out www.ford.co.uk for more info.

First off the rx-8 is not technically a 1.3ltr, now before you argue with me about this I know rotaries and they are 2.6 ltr (mazda lied to you) and who cares if its not ford (even though it is) it kicks serious @$$ and mazda speed is gonna have that puppy turboed faster than you can say "wankel" 5 times fast. it will be over 300hp soon I promise you.

Yeah... I knew that vortech made a supercharger for the duratec 2.5... unfortunately from what I'd heard, they tended to cause the engine to blow up... I owned a '99 Cougar MTX V6 before I wrapped around a couple of trees :-( and I was on the short list of people to get the turbo charger... actually, I had lovely timing, I'd put nearly $5000 worth of upgrades ($4000 towards the turbo and $1000 for other performance stuff) on my credit card the day before I totalled the car... I was lucky that they let me cancel due to circumstances!

Paul

I was fond of that car too ;-/ even though it is kinda girlie...

My buddy had a 2000 cougar and I used to kill him from 0-80 in a Jeep Cherokee 4.0 5-speed. lol. Those cars had no low end grunt at all.

Triva question, who here knows what the Rotary engine was origanly designed to be. (HINT, it wasn't an engine)
