View Full Version : Need interest for indiglow gauges

OK, here's the scoop. I've looked forever for decent indiglows for my 95 with the 145 mph speedo, and i can't find them. www.streetracerparts.com will make them for us but i need 10 confirmed buyers. Standard indiglow (white face during the day, green or blue at night) is $49.99, or add $16 for a 6-color controller instead of the standard 2 color. Reverse and halo reverse are $69.99. you can get an idea of what each looks like on their site. If you're interested, email me or respond to this thread. remember i need 10 for each style if we are to get this going. i personally am going for the halo style, but i think that since this site is nationwide, we should be able to get all three going. Once i call them and tell them i've got the 10 i need, they'll set up a buy in page on their site, where you give them your information and credit card number (it's a secure server) and once that page shows there are 10 interested buyers, they'll begin production. i'm not sure how long that takes but once i have enough interest i'll find out all the details. they'll need a donor panel to make templates from, so if anyone has one or knows where to get one that'd help out a lot too. remember, this is for the 94/95 SC's with the 145 mp speedo and boost gauge. I appreciate anyone that is willing to help out here, just let me know via email or reply to this thread if you're interested, and hopefully we can get this off the ground soon!

I personally like the ones from streetraceparts.com. I have been wanting these forever, tried to talk procarparts into doing the same thing, wouldn't give me the time of day. It's ****** that they offer them for almost every other car, even ****** ones that don't deserve nice gauges. I am in, but I am still unclear on the what the halo looks like. 2-color is alright.

You'd need a 145mph Speedometer from a 94/95
procarparts.com already has a set available for your car.
Unfortunately they don't offer it for the 145pmh 94/95's :(

Thank you so much for starting this rarebird, I'm sure we'll have it going in no time. I have posted this as a link on TCCOA to help speed things up.
I am also wondering how it works/connects to existing wiring and does it kill the stock backlights?
I think the standard blue/green is awesome, don't care too much for the others. Here's what they look like in case no one looked:

I will buy in as soon as it is up on their website. $50 is a steal, you can't argue with that.

If you want to fall in love with some gauge faces, go to www.speedhut.com They are a little more expensive, but look BAD ***. They also have the program where they can make them for you.. but I think they need 20 orders before they'll start. Justo go to speedhut.com and click on the indi-glo gauge link and click on a car to see what all they have to offer.

I can send a Template I have a whole guage cluster they can work with...
What will I need to do to get it to them?.. If I send my template.. do I get hooked up on guages?..
also I see three styles
do you need orders of 10 for each style.. or just 10 for the template for the Thunderbird SC?

Is it for the 145mph speedo?
There's already a 120mph model avail at procarparts.com

Looks like a misprint, as 93s were unique to any SC and there wasn't a 96. We don't want to pay no stinking $116
for plastic faces anyway. What a rip-off.
XR7, if you have a template for 94-95 SC let me know, has to be those years. I think you get the template back and I e-mailed them about the types, but I think they need 10 of the same so it won't be such a difficult run for them.
Speedhut has pretty nice stuff, but that's if you want custom, I don't know if they would do it for our small-production car but someone might ask. I still like the 2-color style, it's clean looking.
RareBird95
10-08-2003, 07:10 AM
here's the deal. i talked to them and what they need is a confirmed buyin of at least 10 for EACH style. prices are as follows, standard indiglo is $49.99 with controls for 2 colors (blue and green) or add $16 for the 6 color controller, with 6 shades of blue/green. the reverse and reverse halos are $69.99 each. the template has to be for an SC, it has to be 94 or 95 so it has the 145 mph speedo, and the boost gauge instead of the lx's amp gauge. once i get ten confirmed for each style on here, i'll call them and tell them that, and then they'll add a page in their product development program for our buy in, and once 10 people go to their secure site and give their info including credit card number, they start production. i don't know right now how long it takes from start of production to when we'd start getting them in the mail, but i'd find that out when i set up the buy in. i know i'm talking like i'm dealing with people who don't know anything about sc's, but i'm just trying not to leave anything out. feel free to flame away if i did.

Just a note... not trying to pull anyone out of this. Speedhut.com would only need 20 orders per dash style. You would still choose whether you get reverse or standard indiglo. The production numbers of the car wouldn't matter, cause they would have to have the minimum of 20 orders anyway. I learned about them through a Chrysler Conquest/Mitsubishi Starion site, so they will do the car as long as they get a instrument cluster to go off of. The only down fall is the sticker price (around $120 I think) and the fact that they will need 20 orders (pre-paid... they take a CC# and bill you when it ships) before they even start tooling.

I have been keeping up with all your group buy info and i am too interested. My pro though is that the 145 is for the later model tbirds and i have a 90. I would love to have a speedo that goes up to 145 and would be down to get in on your group buy, but what would i need to change mine over from the 120 to the 145? Can i do it? And if so im in for a set of the reverse halos!!!

You can use them if you buy a 145mph speedo which there are people sellin' them, can't remember what all is required but you can do it.
Good Day.. Yes I can supply a Guage set from a 94-94 T-bird...
I too want to be in to the buy in as well..

Put me on there Rookie, I'll take a set of the halo reverse style for my 95.. what did you say $69.95 or something like that??
Seems to me the guys ought to go ahead and do the page for you so you'd have an accurate count using their polling utility, and they could get this done for us.
The other ones they show on that developement page don't have 10 yet either.. Tell them to set us up, to heck with this lengthy forum thread and trying to count who wants what..
RJ
I have emailed them to setup the buy on thier devolpment pages for each variation. Once it is setup everyone that is interested needs to go to thier web site and put thier name in the hat for the gauges they want. www.streetracerparts.com/model_development2.htm (http://www.streetracerparts.com/model_development2.htm)

There has to be a minimum of ten on a particular style before they will produce them. They will also need a cluster with the 145 speedo for a template, I believe they will send it back when they are done, if any one can help with that aspect let me know. I have emailed them to set us up and am waiting for a response.

Well, I'm back in the group buy. I got my gauges from scott hrbacek, and they look good but they don't let enough light through, even when i bought brighter bulbs i can't see the numbers at the top of the speedo or a couple other rather important spots at night. So I'm gonna jump back in for the reverse halos, and probably pick up a set of the same for my taurus SHO while i'm at it. I was just on www.streetracerparts.com and i didn't see the SC on the development list for any of the three styles, maybe i was at the wrong part of the site?

Nope you weren't at the wrong site... That's the place...
Last I heard they will not put the 94/95 Thunderbird SC on that page untill they have a set of guages to use as a model.
I do have a complete set off a 95 that I can send in, however I am using the 145 speedo in my 89 Cougar.. (Which is parked for the winter) I am willing to take my 145 out.. an mail in the extra guage I have.. But..
I was also wondering if anyone out here had a Dead 145 speedo head, we could combine with my cluster... that way.. I will have no worries of my 145 coming back bad...
I did some posting and heard nothing... so I think I am going to contact www.streetracerparts.com an go ahead and mail in my cluster with my good 145 speedo..
I just hope I don't get shafted on this deal.. If my speedo comes back dead.. I hope the people in this club appreciate what I did, so that you all can get the guages..
so lastly.. if anyone has a dead 145.. contact me ASAP.. kvan@charter.net

Karl, im sure we all appreciate you being able to send it in. I too wouldnt want it to get damaged to make a templet. I see you have a 145 speedo in your 89. I have a 90 and too want to put one in but am not sure what is really needed. I asked b/f and nobody gave an answer. Is it just plug in or what other mods do you have to do to make it actually work. Thanks for any and all help. Zach

Zach,
It's a very easy process..
1. get the 145 speedo head.. or cluster out of 94/95 T-bird SC
2. pulls speedo head out of t-bird cluster an plug into your cluster..
That's it my friend.. works like a champ my friend....

Also, I noticed that the Reverse Halo Gauges have that annoying 55MPH mark. Is there a way that can be skipped?

Good point dirty, If we can get them without the modified hatch mark at 55 that'd be a big plus, freeways haven't been 55 since the cars were built in 95 lol. i can't remember if i ever said which one i'm in for but i'm game for the reverse halos. Ok guys I called them today and they updated there website to include an application for model development. So I filled out an application. They only allowed one choice for the app so I put the Halo reverse since I think that's what most people wanted. They need 10 of each style in order to make that style.
So hopefully soon we'll have something on http://www.streetracerparts.com

Well let's get a list of who's in on which gauges. I like the standard indiglo, 2 color, but i'll pop for the extra color controller.
rookie94sc- I used regular automotive paint. If I could do it again, I would have sent the dash out to be dipped for a cleaner look. I had to go through the hassle of removing all that stupid rubber coat, then, I used about 3 coats of primer, and sanded in between. Then I did about 6 coats of red wetsanding in between and clearing over the rest. Major pain to complete. But it does look right. I used krylon paint, color is cherry red. almost a perfect match to the tail lamps, reflective lettering, and my parking lamps.

Cool I was just wondering cuz I was planning on redying the interior all black except the area around the gauges and down the console that's already black and matching that to the exterior.
I'm sure if you go to the application screen and fill out the app, they'll add the 2 color as well.

Hey guys, I have a set of the gauge faces off of my cluster. I installed white face gauges, so I don't need them. You guys are welcome to them if you want them. I do't know what they need for a pattern to make them for you, but if these are what you need, then your all set. Give me an address and I'll send them out. They fit in an envelope so there isn't much cost to send. They are out of a 94- 145 speedo.

when i first called streetracerparts.com, before I ever started this thread, i was informed that their updating on the buy in page isn't done daily, but even at that, there should be more than 6 so far. come on guys, i signed up on the buy in page the day they put it up, it's been an awful long time for a 5 page thread full of interested members to not have fulfilled the 10 confirmed buy requirement. let's step it up here guys, there are at least 6 of us who have comitted already, and i know there's at LEAST 4 more of you that want them. Come on, people! I put my order in, and you know what? I DON'T EVEN HAVE a 145MPH speedo yet!
If you say you're going to do something, then by God, get it done!
You may flame me now.
Along with myself being the Provider for the Template
I have also submitted my order for a set..
Thing is, if they update daily.. I tend to wonder about my order.. because.. I did my order.. and never seen the number jump, untill just a week ago... and i put my order in roughly a month ago...
so with that.. they very well maybe or may not be at 10 of 10 once thier web page says 10 of 10 though.. I am going to be calling them.. and getting them the template guage set..
Speaking of the Template guage set.. I have a whole cluster... along with the 145 speedo in it... however.. I do not want to good 145 speedo damaged... (with low miles on it) if anyone happens to have a broken 145 speedo.. I would be happy to offer you a couple bucks so that one could be sent in with the cluster.. rather than my good one.. :)
Just so you know.. if I don't come accross a brokend 145 speedo.. I am still willing to send mine in to be operated on.. :)

Hey Karl, is the set your sending for a template out of an SC or an XR7?? I thought there was some difference in the clusters...
BTW, I put my order in as number 4 of the ten and it didn't update on the page for a couple of days, so I hope they have their info right there..
RJ
I have a Guage Cluster out of a 1995 Thunderbird SC
I bought from a salave yard for the Speedo.. to put in my 1989 Cougar XR7
Just to clarify any questions as to the cluster I am sending in..
The 1995 Cluster will be sent in with 145 speedo...
Once it is sent back to me.. I am going to use only the Speedo and put in my 1989 Cougar XR7

Mine is paid for.
Going into a 94 5-speed
Mike Sullivan
ytown-mike, Actually to get technical..
Yours are not paid for YET... they will not charge your card order untill after 10 of 10 has been reached... and also untill the get a template guage set, once they start the process of making the guages... Then the orders will be charged to thier respective purchasers.. :) There might even be another step in there before they actually charge you for them.. and you Then will be Paid For..
hehhehe.. :)
wasn't being mean about saying this..
Just a little factual information, I got from them when I called to coordinate sending in the cluster... :)
OH and By The Way ytown-mike, Thats a great looking car.. Nice job keepin her lookin good.. :) You should be proud of that work of art.. :)

Hey Rookie, who was it that said they'd send in an extra cluster for tooling??
RJ
That would be me that is going to send in the Cluster..
Problem for me is.. it's not EXTRA.. it's my working one...
I had hoped to find a dead 145 speedo head somewhere.. but have had no luck..
I plan on having the cluster mailed into them this week.. preferably today sometime.. Tuesday March 9th
I already contacted them.. and have the Mailing address and instructions in hand.. :)

The gauges shipped UPS Blue to streeracerparts.com
Karl in Minnesota allowed me to send the gauge set for the development of this style gauge.
The contact person at streetracerparts.com is Shaun Mensior.
This will take 4-6 weeks according to Shaun. I hope we haven't lost any participants since this thing started.
I will pass along any information as I receive it.

Part of it was my fault, I hadn't been albe to get them paid due to just getting my card back (lost it) and a pay period change at work so I wasn't gonna get paid until the 20th. Luckily one of the guys at work owed me $100 so I deposited it and called them.
But she said when I called that they had just got them back from tooling and were getting ready to send them out.
From what she said the initial 10 buy-ins is just to cover tooling the other 40 sets they have they still have to try and sell so there are more than just the initial 10 if others want to buy them btw.

I got mine yesterday and got them in... They look great and work great... I would recommend when installing them since you don't have to remove the factory gauges that you mark on them or the case the alignment of the needle and remove the needles. I broke two needles putting them on (super glue worked to put them back together) and the tach you'll have to remove (at least I did) because the three little screws have nuts behind them that aren't secured to anything.
Also before you install them (which I forgot to do) double check your oil pressure gauge... Mine says L and E instead of L and H. I'm gonna call them today and check on that.
I'll take pics tonight.

I got a couple of mine done last night, I got tied up with the honey do list!! Didn't notice the Oil pressue gauge, LMAO...:D I'll have to look at that when I get home tonight..., the ones I did last night rookie I was able to get on without removing the needles, I had started on the tach when I got yelled at for playing with my toys, so I'll have to finish up tonight..
I think I'm going to investigate the possibilty of changing the needle colors anyway, white on white doesn't really send me..

OK, how is it that the guy that originally started this thing still hasn't gotten his gauges yet? Doesn't seem fair to me....when I install them, I've got to remove the needles for at least my fuel and temp gauges, cause when I installed the white faces that are in it now, I put those needles on in the wrong spot. always reads barely above the C on the temp, and the fuel gauge is off too, I get the low fuel and check gauges lights when i'm still showing almost 1/4 tank. oops, hehe.

Aww crap! I didn't notice a typo till kamikaze mentioned it.
Are they going to make it right to people they've already sent the gauges to?
After dealing with them yesterday on the wrong set they sent me, they don't strike me as the type who will make it right. I could be wrong, but that's the feeling I'm getting from them. I had to pay shipping to return the WRONG gauge faces THEY sent me. The guy's attitude was "It's not our fault you got the wrong set". Well then, who's ***** fault is it?!

Hey Wings Dirty, rookie said he'd talked to them the other day and they were going to make it good for us.. I've had three different people have different opinions of them now. Got mine installed not too hard to do but the damn factory lights show through a bit and it looks bad, especially around the boost and gas gauge. I then put black electrical tape all around every gauge to contain the other lights in the back ground. I am not sure what it looks like yet since my car had to go back to the shop...I will let you guys know, and try to take some pics. Also I did not see the typo until I read it on here...funny...lol...

kamakazie_1,
The tape worked out good and it looks alot better. It was just a pita because you had to do it so the tape would not show once you put the black bezel piece over. My damn speedo is still getting stuck on the gauges so once again I have to pull it apart...oh well. I will get it right one time or another. I basically took black electrical tape and did each gauge one by one and sealed around it. There is a little hole on the boost and gas gauge on my 94 that can't be sealed up since the bezel has a little nipple that goes through it. This is the only place a little bit of light comes through. What was the mistake on the oil pressure? The E instead of H? I tried to read back on the post but got lost. Thanks. If any of you have any questions regarding the tapeing process just let me know.

Thats the other cool thing about these gauges. You don't have to remove the needles at all. You can slip the whole gauge over the needle and carefully slide the gauges down over them to the correct spot. I used some super glue on mine to hold them down because the speedo needle would get stuck on a little bit of the gauge. Hope this helps.
