I broke a stud on the exhaust manifold.

I'm trying to put new cats and downtubes on my car and I broke one of the studs on the manifold. I soaked the studs with penetrating oil, too.

How do I put in a new stud? I really don't want to take off the manifold!

Please give suggestions!

Thanks!

With a little work you can unscrew the stud and just replace it. I would soak it for a while in some penetrating oil and get some vice grips and unscrew it. I just did the same thing but I was replacing the manifold gasket so I took it out to do it. A little easier.

You may want to try heating the area around the stud as well with a propane torch. That will help to break the grip that the manifold has on the stud.:)

Thanks guys.

So the stud is threaded into the manifold? I was hoping I could just beat it out.

I've been soaking it. Tommorrow I'll heat it up and try to get it out.

Thanks.

I've been struggling with this blasted stud for most of the day. It definitely screws out right?

If I can't screw it out, what other options do I have?

Thanks again.

You can bolt it up with one bolt and drive to the muffler shop and have them replace it. The 20 or 30 bucks will be far worth it.
