Ok so Ive finally got moving a little on my 65 falcon. I very generously recieved a 5.0 short block as a kick down, so ive no real excuse!! Im not to familiar with v8's (hey im an ex-ricer ok) but ive got enough mechanical ability to assemble it, and what I cant do I got my dad for. But I know some of you are v8 savy like pro street rich, xr-7 dave etc.. So if you guys have any suggestions on building a solid strong 5.0 let me know. It would be much apprieciated!!!!:D

I have a 66 Mustang GT with a bored 5.0 (347). The best thing we ever did was use roller rockers and lifters. Aside from that get yourself some 351W heads. The 351 heads are interchageable with the 302 and will give you a big jump in performance. Next best thing is a set of forged pistons. Along with being more heat resistant, these type pistons can withstand enormous forces and are used in applications where "hot" fuel is used. As you can see in my signature, we use CAM2 and powdered nitro which is perfectly safe as long as your engine is strong enough. But start with the basics... Intake, carb, ignition, etc. then work on bulletproofing.
I dont know how outrageous you want to go with your 5.0 but there is an absolute endless amount of ways to get into the performance bracket you want. Whether its a little weekend warrior or a ProStreet like my 66, you can build 5.0's to your taste.
You said youre an ex-ricer... what did you have? Im a fellow ex'r myself.

ive owned 3 rotary engine powered vehicles. an 89 turbo II with EVERY thing done to it 327 rwhp, monster in a straight line, 8400 rpm redline!! An 85 gsl-se with n02 and the tightest suspention that I could get in okinawa (much more to choose from overthere) that wasnt the quickest in a straight line (220 rwhp) but it could drift almost endlessly in any direction any up to 70mph. and my first rx was an 82 gs, nothing special, just fun(carberated). But now im really into torque.:D :D :D oh yeah torque!!!!

Oh, a Mazda Man, gotcha... Well i was Honda crazy for a while. Then i got a 87 F250 with a 460, talk about torque! Then i got the Tbird which is a whole other league from anything ive driven. And with the right tire combination Ive had it sideways and airborne a few times. Its amazing how neutral such a big car can be but i attribute it to the IRS and enough torque to force it around. But its a good all around performer.

lessonintorque,
Just FYI for you. I've got a 351W at my old man's place that I'm going to get put into a bird one of these days. I'm not planning on using the stock heads so if you're interested, shoot me an email. (smalone@neb.rr.com) They are from a F150 ('86). I'm not using them but going with an aftermarket head. Unfortunately, the heads, and engine for that matter, is still in the truck as I'm not there enough to get it all pulled quickly. I've started the dis-assembly of the accessories, but some of that stuff is a PIA to get off. Let me know if you're interested. If you're not in a hurry I can get them for you.
Can't say I'm a x-ricer as my only cars have been (and will be) T-birds.

I like to find good aspects in all cars and makes personally.
how'd you like the 7's? I find myself intrigued by the wankel and wanting to own one

I wouldnt mind a Jap spec RX-7 Twin Turbo. Now that would be bad, almost as bad as the R34 Skylines.

And you sold it for an SC.... Man you must really like Super Coupes. If only a BOV was needed on Supercharged engines, I think a nice loud "WHOOOSH PSSST" would be sweet on an SC.
