I put 3 quarts of syncromesh in my trans this morning and I don't think it was enough. Does anyone out there know how many quarts of fluid our 5 speed trans's use?

6.3 pints or 3 quarts + 4.8 oz

All of my manuals say 6.3 pints which is 3 quarts and 4.8 ounces. I saw a thread recently that specified more, something on the order of 4 quarts but I have no reason to question any of my manuals, the oldest being purchased in 1992.

Thanks,

I bought 3 quarts but probably spilled a half a quart trying to get them in the trans.

What's the best way to fill the trans while it's in the car?

I use a funnel and clear plastic tubing fished down through the engine compartment.

i thought mine held about 3 1\2 quarts i used the nozzle off of a quart of 80 w and put it on a quart of atf and squeezed it in, i try to change it a lot about every year,, when i put synchros in 150 k miles ago it looked shot to me ,, every time i change fluid theres lots of metal in the fluid
