Ok, here's the scoop. Im about to purchase a 1990 automatic sc. It has 100,000 miles on it, the body is "fair". It has the red leather interior ( not too crazy bout red) and the only other thing I know is that is has falken tires. The guy is asking 900 ( seems a lil low , reason 4 this post) I plan on test driving it later this week. Can u guyz gimme some common things or known problems with these cars to look out for before I lay out cash. I appreciate the help. Thnx

I just bought mine last week. I didn't seem to get as good a price for mine as you did but then again mine is an anniversary with the 5-speed. ( I think one of about 150 ever made). I bought mine knowing it had problems because I wanted something to work on. I paid $1900. I have a blown head gasket and the exhaust could use some work. My anniversary leather/suede seats need reupholstered in the front. As for you, it depends on what you want. Is it rotted (do you like body work or the money to have someone do it) Does it have a blown head gasket.
very common on these due to aluminum heads. Stock JBL sound systems never work. Engine mounts fail all the time. I would say it's worth it because you could part it out if you want to and make more than that money back. You see guys on here all the time selling this or that. This piece of trim for $5 or a CV shaft for $35 or an innercooler for $80 as examples.

hey man, thnx 4 the lookout on the head gasket deal. I buy and sell cars as much as i change underwear ( that means often lol but for some it means once a month) and i rarely check the compression. I was aware though about hte aluminum heads becuase I had a 91 t-bird sport with the 5.0 HO Im hopefully going to pick up the car this weekend but it doesnt look to good because Im awaiting the arrival of the duplicate title for my present car that im tryin 2 sell. Know anyone that wants to buy an 89 240sx with some mods? asking 1500 :)

The head gaskets are definitely a problem area on these cars. Check the standard stuff, is the oil milky, is there muddy looking stuff in the overflow, white smoke out the back. As you know, just because there aren't any symptoms doesn't mean they aren't bad or weren't blown at some other time. I just wanted to reply to this to mainly say that I hope you don't buy this car just to part it out. That happens too often these days. Let somebody else have it. It's a lot of work to part out a car anyway. If you are buying it to fix it up keep in mind that it is not a cheap car to fix up or modify. You have to be almost a little crazy to get involved with these beautiful cars. As you notice on this site, most of us love these cars fanatically. Good Luck and keep us posted.

Darkside, I agree mostly with what you say, it's like selling your soul buying one of these things. Especially if you have a family. You can hear it calling you in the garage to come fix me. Ford stands for fix or repair daily. But, parts are not THAT expensive. I mean it's still a ford. The place I buy parts from is pretty good and if you look at parted out items it's even cheaper. Not everyone HAS to do all these mods that cost a lot. I will fix my head gasket by doing both sides for less than $500 including the machine shop work and parts. Also includes engine mounts, belts, plugs, wires etc. Just don't beat these cars and they will last. It's a LOT cheaper than picking a foreign car to restore. Just think, some day the SC's will be the new muscle car. I would already rather own a early 90's SC than a mid 90's because they look more retro and tougher. My 2 cents
