View Full Version : I'm oddly ecstatic this didn't happen to the SC

Well, turns out that yesterday was a bad driving day for a lot of people, myself included..

I was driving down Bloor, just past the viaduct in the left lane with an older 5 series next to me in the middle lane.. out of nowhere (traffic up ahead was blocking our view), a guy pulls out from a driveway to the right of us just before Broadview.. long story short, stopping a car from 55km/h, in the rain, in 15 ft just isn't possible. I clipped his front end, and got deflected into the incoming lanes (thank god there was no traffic coming that way).. Bimmer on my right hit his door..

Suprisingly all it did was destroy my right fender. Hood's fine, inner fender seems ok. Bumper's had it though, and I had NO lights on the right hand side (corner light shattered, headlight fell out but didn't break). Passenger door won't open (fender's pushed back).. I'll let the pics do the rest of the talking..

So yeah, he wants to settle out of insurance, and it looks like I can get a good $700-$800 from him.. I'm getting rid of the car. It's been more trouble than it's worth, and this is just icing on the cake. Plus, I just won't keep a car that's been hit. Ever. I'm now looking for a Mark 7 LSC to complement the 'Coupe as a daily driver.

As a side note, these pics were taken after we kicked the fender back in.. it was bulging out above the wheelwell by about a foot.. the front edge of the wheel well was about 1/4" from the tire.. And I ghetto'd the headlight back in because I had to go to my gf's birthday dinner (wood screws and a coat-hanger :D ), but there's no way in hell I can re-use that headlight..

Oh yeah, I'll be parting it out, so if anyone needs anything off it, I'll take it off once I get the new car.. (NA 3.8, AOD, interior's so so, but panels are pretty mint)

I'm glad to hear that you're OK.

...Is that car really in bad enough shape to part it out? It looked pretty clean otherwise. Replace the fender, header panel, headlamp housing and shoot it all with some paint, and you're probably good to go. That bumper doesn't look too bad in the pics. I think on those Cougars, you can replace just the trim insert, no?!

Cheers,

Sean

I'm glad to hear you're okay, too. You gotta wonder how insurance is gonna work this out.

the car's actually a lot rougher than the pics would imply.. I bought it as a beater..

The bumper cover needs to be replaced. You can't tell in the pics, but it's ripped to all hell right at the top of the black trim. It's just sitting flush right now so you can't really tell. Beauty is though, the actual bumper behind the cover wasn't affected. The outter fender took all of the impact. Bare in mind we kicked the fender back in just to be able to drive the car out, so it's a lot better than it was.. Imagine the whole thing pushed back by about a foot.

But yeah.. I'm getting about $800 for it from the guy's parents (out of insurance).. I can fix the car properly for that much, or I could just ghetto it back together with a corner light and a fender for $100, and spend the rest on the SuperCoupe.. :p Odds are I'll do the latter, seeing as I don't feel any kind of particular love for the Cougar and it just needs to get me from A-B

No motor.
It's slated for the stang.
