I think I remember seeing that blurb in Motor Trend back then. The idea of a turbo with the belt driven supercharger is interesting. Likely the costs of doing such a setup for production usage was going to be too high, so they went with the Eaton blower alone to generate enough torque to move the fat pigs.
Just noticing the wheels too, which are the 1984 - 86 SVO Mustang 16-inchers. Those are 5 on 4-1/2" pattern, same as most other RWD Fords. So at some point in the engineering process, Ford decided to go with the 5 on 4-1/4" pattern, which was only ever used on the Taurus / Sable up to that point, on the MN-12 Birds and Cougars ... and severely limiting our choices for aftermarket wheels in the process, unless you go with the hub conversion. Have to wonder what the engineers are thinking sometimes when they make these choices.

Pre-production cars are usually heavily disguised like that when out on public roads (or anywhere they might be seen) during testing. The manufacturers generally don't want the exact shape and form of the car to be seen until it's officially released.

Exactly. That "thing" looks disguised as an Eldorado.

I like the way they do it now - black covers on everything. Put some extra padding underneath it and it's hard to tell what's underneath.;)

Mikey,
Someone actually sent you something like that? Are you locking your doors at night, buddy? ...That's kinda scary. I guess you really do know how to push peoples' buttons, man!

I know who sent that. He takes some things way too seriously, but he's harmless.
If Mikey took it seriously it wouldn't be in his sig.....
Mikey's not the only one on his hit list. I won't name names....
