So far so good, the light throttle shifts are NOT harsh, just firm, and a WOT 1-2 shift spins, (not chirps) the tires.
Pretty satisfactory, although I have not driven it much, Went to Krown at lunch and they were able to do it right then, got very particular treatment as well.
The 1-2 piston was barely scratched and the spring was intact, all the TSB upgrades have been done now.

Glad to hear it, Peter. You DID replace the 1-2 piston anyways , right? Enjoy another long-lasting tranny!

Yes, 1-2 piston was changed.
with a cooler on it in the spring, and eventually a tuner so I can control the transmission better, it will be set for a long long time.
Furthermore the experience of my 90' for 12yrs gains you knowledge about how/where to prevent rust!!

Toms-SC - Baumann has shift kits for many of Ford's trannys. All the MN-12 'Birds (regardless of SC or LX) are covered between two kits. One is for the AOD ('89-93) and the other for the 4R70W (94-97).
Check them out @;

The one I put in my car is great. If I ever buy another vehicle that they have a kit for it will be the FIRST thing I do, along with a cooler.

lazybird4pt6: Im fairly new when it comes to transmissions. Mine is an early style (91) with 110,000 KM's mostly City driven. What should I be looking for? I assume:
1) AOD Pressure Regulator Boost Valve Kit
2) ReCal Pro™ AOD Valve Body Recalibration Kit
And perhaps an over-hall kit?

1) yes
2) yes
With 'only' 110,000 on the clock you shouldn't have to worry too much about a rebuild unless there's something obviously wrong. It wouldn't hurt to overhaul the tranny, but only if it's really necessary or if you want to upgrade to higher quality clutch plates, etc. Remember.......tranny=$$$. Most shops here in TO will charge around $2300 to rebuild (parts and labour). Tranny internals aren't always cheap and to remove, then rebuild and install is a fair amount of labour.
Peter and myself are trying the whole 'preventative maintenance' thing. This is Peter's second go and my first. I'll be cracking into the tranny again soon enough....it's kinda addictive....or maybe it's just the fluid getting to me - LOL!

Not sure how it will end up, it has to come down 7" from where it is. We'll see in the spring, however my truck is good enough to pull boat now, so I may not bother.
