My dad and I got back last week from driving a 4,800 mile roundtrip to Boise, Idaho. What did we bring back with us? A 1956 Ford Country Sedan 8 passenger (optional 3rd row seat) station wagon. Its blue and white, 99.9% rust free, and has almost perfect stainless trim. Apparently at some point someone had installed a 351W and a C6 tranny inplace of what was probably a 292 Y-block and a Ford-o-matic. For a 47 year old car it drives pretty well, but like anything else that old it does have a few issues that will need to be worked out. The interior will need to be redone but we knew that going in anyway. Paint and bodywork will be on the agenda as well. I suspect once its done she'll be air-bagged and rolling on a nice set of big wheels too. Hmm, anybody got a 5.0L engine and a good AOD lying around anywhere?
Jason,
Keep the 351, punch it out to around 380-400 cubes, put on a stand alone FMU like FAST, add a turbo pushing around 5-7 pounds with a nice came, some AFR heads, put in a Lentech AOD with a 9" and some 3.73's, big ol chrome rims and fat meats on the rear...:D
I first I thought you were going to tell us you got another "deal" on an 89-90 XR7 like the last time....

Well it wasnt THAT good of a deal like that XR7 I picked up for $50 but it was still a good deal. We picked it up for $4k. My dad never intended on buying a "project car", but at that price with a solid as a rock car we can afford to do the restoration work. First order of business will be plugging up the holes in this ship. The rear main seal is leaking like a seive and the tranny is dripping as well. Sounds like there might be a bearing in the rear-end thats going out too. I'll be glad when we get a headliner in it, cause it sounds like riding inside a steel drum without it. We also got a dealer sales brochure for 56 dord wagons with the car. Would you believe Ford offered no less than 6 wagon models in 1956?
