no straight pipes is not a very good idea, unless you want to go deaf , lose alot of power, and have extremely bad emissions, hehe.

so if straight pipes are out what would be the best high flowing exhaust system i could use. I want full exhaust and a verry mean american muscle sound

It will always sound raspy because of the engine design and there isn't really much you can do.

WHY THE POWER LOSS?

with complete straight pipes from the manifolds back thered be a definite loss in torque, but i guess there could be a general hp gain. i dunno, never ran straight pipes ....just throwing in my $.02

As long as the pipes are properly sized there will be no problems.

scul8er is right, it will sound like a$$ and you will probably lose power...if its just straight back you wil lose back pressure, and you need some...it might not be that much, but it will probably have a loss in torque

See above.......

With that said, it will always sound like azz. And the reason is the way the crank is and the firing sequence.

I will do a little testing this summer on this. I want open pipes as well. Don't have headers but should have Wyns opened manifolds on all V6s running by then.

I 've had done straight pipes on my 95sc .I cut off right by the 2 cats and went dual 2.5" to single 3" back to dual 2.5" [ no 3rd cat,no resonator ,no mufflers , it was too loud ] than I also put MAC cold a.i. next day went check it for E.T. [50K. on car ,everything alse factory original ] pulled 14.4 -96mph 1\4 mile. I don't think I lost HP. is it bad or good just for 2 modif.

You will not lose torque going with straight pipes. You will only make more power. You will, however, have a loud car.....and if that is ok with you and you don't have emissions testing like here in Indiana, I say go for it.

What I did on my '88 TurboCoupe is have Midas install a set of their own cherry-bomb glass-pack mufflers. These are the straight-thru tube style, and it gave my puny little 4-cylinder engine a very LOW grumbling sound at idle, almost like a 5.0, but not very loud.
