Have you guys seen this. I think it looks pretty cool myself. What do you guys think? Anybody know where I can get some better pictures of this? BTW, it would be powered by a V10.:D

Darn Darkside you just beat me to posting that. Looks like Ford is going to ruin another cultural icon.

it has a 6.4 liter aluminum 605 hp V-10.

Funny that Dodge needs 8.0 liters to make 500. :)

Is that the same V10 Ford designed for the mustang, but said the car was too light for the power of the V10? This car is looking a little lighter than a mustang.

That V-10 was simply designed for a vehicle. Not necessarily the Mustang. It was found in a Mustang as the mustang shell was used as a test mule for the V-10 powertrain.

If anything the main reason you wouldn't find it in a Mustang is likely cost. I don't think Ford wants to make a 60K Mustang.

Did any of you see the Full size F-250's that ford used to test the GT 40 power plant. I would like to take a test drive in one of those.

Why do y'all insist on calling it GT 40 when it's name is the Ford GT??

And I repeat-who cares what anyone else says-the car met with the approval of Carroll Shelby-the designer of the original. Enough Said!

Carol Shelby is washed up and desperate for money. His last attempt at a car failed horribly and was bought out. He went to Ford out of necessity. He just wants his name on something else, and Ford agreeed because they could use a boost from his legendary name.

I care if it's going to be me putting up the money. In the show, I didn't see carol shelby talking to the suspension designers, the engine builders, the ECM programers. He looked at the car and said it was good.

Does the car look good? To some yes. Could it use more refinement? To some yes.

Isn't that the way it is in life?

I read somewhere that Shelby claimed to have 30 "original" Cobra chassis stored in a wharehouse and was planning on selling them for a pretty high sum. Only problem was that one of the builders of these so-called "original" chassis ratted him out saying they were new production chassis not original unused 60's chassis. Needless to say, Shelby had to do alot of backpedaling on that deal. Plain and simply put.....he lied. What a guy!

Last I heard he said he was making new cars off the old platform and giving them new vin numbers. He decided to do that because everyone who was ripping off his design refused to donate a small portion of their sales to his childrens heart foundation. So he started making new ones and selling them for 115,000 bucks or so. They have an alpha numeric name that I cannot remember.

You apparently didn't pay attention to the show, then-Carroll was brought in specifically for this project (and will be used as the technical expert on other projects), and was in on every point of engineering-and there was a LOT that wasn't shown concerning design and construction.

As for the rest-I would really like to know where you got the information about the chassis-since in 89 he used those leftover chassis, and then late one he redesigned the Cobra and those chassis were called the CSX4000.

The CSX4000 Cobra is selling for $39,995 right now-that does NOT include the motor.

It's been many years since I read the story on the chassis. I wish I could remember exactly which magazine it was. It was tied in with the lawsuit filed by Shelby against Ford for the rights to the "Cobra" name. Needless to say, Ford won that battle which is why Shelby couldn't name his car a Cobra. Anyway, the scam definitely was to sell these Cobra chassis as original production chassis which they were not. I beleive he misrepresented these as '64 chassis but I could be wrong about that. So like it or not, he lied and was caught in that lie. Of course, nothing compares to the sacrilege he commited when he crawled over to Slodge. The Dodge Omni GLHS? I don't care how quick it was, turbo 4's and Shelby aren't two ideas that will ever mix in my head. Good to see him back with the good guys and playing with real cars with real engines.
