mr beer baron has waaaaaaaaaaay too many cars....hehe
dang i hadnt posted in here in a while so i came back....
the sc is still running hanging on to life by a thin little thread, its bruning oil and i still beat on it senselessly, ill probably do a rebuild on it soon, again, damn!!!
at least its looking decent, i clay bared it and waxed it with meguiars gold class so it's looking mighty glossy..only problem is i dont have the sc with me cuz my brother idiotically crashed his yukon and is driving her today to go to his job by the airport at Hathaway Dinwiddie Construction.
so how is everyone doing? How were everyones holidays?
i've seen a few more sc's here in east los but none that are driven by anyone who actually knbows what they have, and don't have any interest in improving the performance in these underestimated beasts
well im rambling now so if anyone spots an anniversary edition sc with CAUTION Hardcore Cowboy on the liscence plate frame...that be me

Heh. Yeah, I have too many vehicles. I'm thinking about selling my 68 Mustang, but it is my first car... Also my mother was the original owner. Oh well, I guess I'll keep it for now. Like my sig says, I'm looking for a TurboCoupe for a daily driver.
I guess when you've had 14 cars over a long life... (wait, I'm only 23?) Hehe, ten of those cars cost less then $1000 a piece.

Jose, I'm in Azusa and can loan you a code reader or point you to instructions on how to check for codes using the "paperclip method" by counting flashes of the Check Engine light.

let me know how that paper clip thing works. i would really appreciate it. thanks

Quick & dirty checking for stored codes:
1. Ignition off
2. In the engine compartment, passenger side rear, find the test connector and install a paperclip jumper as shown in the diagram below.
3. Sit in driver’s seat and turn ignition on but don’t start the motor.
4. Watch the Check Engine light and count the flashes and record the counts. There will be a 2 second pause between digits and a 4 second pause between codes. The codes will display twice so you can make sure you counted them correctly.
5. Turn off the ignition.
6. Remove the jumper.
7. To clear the codes, remove the jumper while the codes are being displayed then turn off the ignition.
mn12performance.com has the codes listed -
89 – 90 2 digit: www.mn12performance.com/m...odes_2.htm (http://www.mn12performance.com/mn12-techinfo/eec_codes/eec-iv_codes_2.htm)
91 – 95 3 digit: www.mn12performance.com/m...odes_3.htm (http://www.mn12performance.com/mn12-techinfo/eec_codes/eec-iv_codes_3.htm)
For detailed information and more complex tests see the Matt Boggs article in September 1999 Chargin’ Thunder.

Make sure your ventilation controls are off when doing the test (possible code 67).
Those codes are stored in memory. It's Ok to clear them. If one or more don't return, could indicate some fluke caused it to register. If it's a true problem, the code will be back.

code 63 went away, but 67 stayed i'm wondering if this is a sensor or what. i'm not sure if this is what is causing the car to mis fire under hard acceleration. thanks for all the help you have been really helpful.

Jose,
How old are your plugs and wires? Under boost the spark may be blown out if the voltage is weak. Just an idea.

i changed it two years ago.

Hmmm... How many miles ago was that? That may be the cause. Are there any other symptoms? Usually bad wires/plugs are the cause of missing under load. Is there any stumbling or surging at idle or vacuum?

the car seems to slip. i dont know if it is the clutch, but i changed it less than a year ago. i think i'm going to have to take it to transmission place. i need someone to drive it and give me there .02 it gets very frustrating when you don't have money to get it checked out. or when you cant trust any place they just want to f-ck one over.
thanks

i just finished paying bills this month and have 30-40 bucks to my name...that comes when a muffler starts rattling...o well financial aid will be put to some new mufflers..
glad to hear you were able to get the codes jose, and also that you fixed your sc's rear end problems.
Code 67 reads "clutch switch circuit failed (3.8 SC Only) and the other code 67 reads "Neutral Drive Switch Circuit Open" my .02 is for you to pay attention to the first one since it is for the sc only
try and post on the sccoa tech forum for help or search in the SC enthusiast forums

for any help.
As far as the code 63 Throttle position Sensor circuit out of Range, remove the Air Idle Control and clean it (they are both attached to the throttle body) the AIC is the larger of the two and the TPS (i think) sits on top or behind it).
Bad AIC's caused the same codes to read on my car when it went bad. It also gave me Lean codes from the MAF, but the chinito mechanic clreared them and they didnt come back.
Try to use some throttle body cleaner (about 3-4 bucks at autozone) and a pipe cleaner (yes we all know what those are so dont act innocent) but be very carefull when u clean it. If it keeps giving you the same codes after then wait until you get some money and take it in to get checked. Any place is going to charge you about 35-40 for diagnostic no matter if you already know what codes is going to give out. And then depending on whats wrong with it more $$$.
Let me know how if you need any more help. My Number is 323 574 0179 its a cell and its always on. (If any other of the members are reading this post you are all welcome to call me if you need to, or if you are going to the track)

naw bro if its idling that bad and making somewhat of a dying goose noise its probably the aic. the gunk that was in there was probably actually helping it work better. there is a slimm chance you might have jsut gotten it stuck, just tkae it appart again and clean it some more, try to move it around and get it to function properly. if it indeed messed up then you are going to have to buy the part. get it from ford cuz aftermarket sux balls
make sure you dont have any foreign objects blocking the actual throttle body and as far as the tps goes i dunno what they do when they mess up, but your symptoms are what i went through when my aic messed up, this was after i messed up the tranny the same day it was rebuilt  so i drove it home (auto mind you) sounding like it was dying, replaced the aic and had no more problems
good luck and keep us posted

just flipping through the posts...
this weekend I picked up a computer diagnostics reader @ the swap meet in pomona. haven't tested it out but it works on anything from 83 up w/ a computer. No doubt i'll be using it on my tbird for diagnostics on the abs system and whatever other warning lights that are on. If your at all interested in capabilities I'll look through it some more but I'm not even going to get to using it until this weekend, more than likely.

Hey Manny...
Nice offer!
How about bringing it to a mini-meet at either Fontana or Irwindale and do some diagnostics in the pits between runs?
That might get some more guys to come out if they knew that they were going to get a "free" diagnostic run on their SC...what do you think?
Later,
Ron
