Head gasket failure

My 90 T-Bird SC had catastrophic head gasket failure, and "ate" the right bank head. The block had to be decked, cylinders bored, and of course a new head was purchased.
Should there be other things I should have done, while the engine is apart? This car has only 40,000 actual miles.
Thanks for any help

That sounds like a very unusual case.. Have you determined if there was any significant event which lead to this failure?

For other things; the oil should be analyzed for water. If coolant entered, it likely corroded & washed the bearings of lubrication causing extensive wear. In this instance they will need replacement.

With as bad as it sounds your headgasket problem was, it seems inevitable that coolant entered the crankcase.
