Hey SC g's

i got my aod rebuilt last july at around 127K after i lost overdrive, od never engaged it just spun like if it was on neutral. it cost 750 and it included full overhaul, new torq converter, and a general cleaning.

i had to take it back a couple of times because on the first day it made a HORRIBLE noise while i was driving up to the observatory and the same day the AIC messed up. little did i know that the transmission was still bad but since i was duped into believeing that the problem was the AIC (even tho the AIC actually was bad) i kept driving the car.

i beat on my car pretty bad (read the sig) and visited the shop about 3 times after that, twice for a tv cable adjusting and the third for a leak on the rod at the valve body. now today it did the same moffugen thing except it spun like it was on neutral and grabbed every once in a while.

well it is in the shop again and this time around if they are going to take the whole thing down i am asking them to put in a shift kit (transgo) and an external oil cooler although i thought i saw one in there right next to the radiator where the air silencer used to be, anyone else have what appears to be a tranny cooler there, and if so ~~~ is it?

also, why is the aod so friggin weak. at least mine anyway, i figure it would go more than 8k before it messed up again. could there be anything that these numbnutz messed up or didnt do right? maybe they are using the regular aod parts and not the stronger aod parts that the sc is supposed to have. what do these things include?

oh well that is my piece. the good thing is it was still under warranty

whats up al35thsc?
well im new here in sccoa, and i realized im not the only one. I have the same problems, the shop screwed me over and i now have a seized engine, and currently spening a extra chunk of change to make it to vegas hopefully.were are you located??? Im in riverside county, city of norco. in your letter you said you think they used regular AOD parts instead of the right ones, maybe thats me problem, cheap @#%$ mechanics, and i paid $1750 for my tranny re-build, you think they could have done better.

Al,

This is one of the many reasons I changed to a 5-speed. The AOD has many internal problems that will remain because it's a poor design. The best thing you can do to protect yourself against it is get another external tranny cooler and a tranny oil temp gauge. The tranny cooler that you have now is actually on the bottom of the radiator. The one to the right belongs to another part of the engine.

My advise is to try and get your $ back (Which probably won't happen) and get a professional built one. Like Lintech or Art Karr.

Most tranny places don't understand the principals in the AOD and particularly when we are putting 300+lbs torque into them!

Just my 2 cents.

hey guys,

thanks for the reply!

I got the car back and it turns out i just burnt the od band (again, from an improperly adjusted tv cable and my size 11 shoe beating too much on the gas pedal) and some other stuff broke on it due to hard launches. It is running a lot smoother nad it seems to accelerate a little better. I am currently trying to redo the suspension and get a set of tires. I am also in the midts of deciding if i should go to Minneapolis for a conference for school or go to the Vegas meet. Believe it or not ive never been to either part of the world :) .

nbowman19x: i feel you man, i spent ~1800 for hg's and some rods after i bent them and spun a bearing and my engine is still getting blow-by. Looks like im looking into another rebuild after the tax return YaY!!! 1700 for a tranny rebuild is a little steep, who did you go to and what exactly did they do? if its still under warrnaty take it back to them and dont take no for an answer...they might take a little longer but they do it right eventually, also make sure they adjust the tv cable correctly. im in east los angeles, second largest city in mexico lol

TBK: although it sounds like the perfect idea considering i would already have the 3.27's switching to a 5 spd doesnt seem like a good idea right now since it would be pretty costly. im trying to save up for the lenteh valve body and then if im still alive hehe the whole lentech tranny. getting my $$$ back seems impossible, but i will be getting a shift kit, tranny cooler and then a gauge, where did you mount yours? and do you have any pix?
