Well SCers...First of all, Irwindale has a great set-up. It is a new and modern facility with very nice accomodations for fans and racers alike. The officials were all very nice and helpful. It's a class operation.
Secondly, we could have raced over and over...non-stop...as much as you wanted as this is an 1/8th mile and doesn't take long to get the cars through.
I raced three times, as I didn't want to stress the mysterious "clunk" in the driveline. (I suspect IRS Isolators).
My best R/T was .668 and ran at 70mph. I was running against John Shelton at the time and I am sure he was wondering if I had my emergency brake on during the run as he easily smoked me. Shelton has a beautiful car and was upholding the honor of the SCCoA. Shelton is very, very fast. I raced two Cobra GT's and Shelton's times were better than both of them.

I think Irwindale is a great site for our next meet. So mark your calendars for SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 11 STREET LEGAL PROGRAM 7AM – 5PM.

The place is easy to find and will be a great place for us to hang-out.

For the newer guys, this is a great opportunity to see what others have done and are doing to make the SC an even sweeter ride.

Later for now,
Ron

Just 1/8, Fred. Not enough room for 1/4. Was fun though. I'd never done 1/8 before, but discovered that all the work that I normally do in the 1/4 is over with by the first 1/8 (launching, shifting, etc.) and it's just steering for the last 1/8. So I found it great for practice and... it's only 5 miles from home!

Just Ron, his family, and I were the only SC folks there. The place was swarming with Mustangs though.

Tranny gives me a quick and firm manual 1-2 shift but still wants to casually shift from 2-3 at 2800 WOT. I got a ratchet shifter so I could do the L-D-L-D shuffle quicker and easier. After 1-2 shifting to D and pulling back to L, it dropped back into 1st - RPM's went close to 7000, so I decided not to do that again. I've about had it with that thing.

I told my wife last night that I was going to sacrifice and sell all my old ham radio gear so I could get her a new tranny for our anniversary.

Al,
It would be worth the trip for you, and any anyone else, just to see John Shelton's wheels. He has some pretty trick stuff and knows how to launch that bad boy.
I am hoping to fix the rearend "clunk" and possibly make a couple of runs.

Al,
The strip is toward the rear of the parking area. The drags aren't done on the "roundy round" part. It is configured toward the south east part of the complex.
When you get in line to stage, you can identify the car you want to race or take the car that is naturally paired-up to you when you get to the line to race.
It will be really easy to find us. I would suspect the John Shelton will get there first. If he has run, he'll have his hood up and will be parked in the parking area. As the other guys show-up more and more SC's will be parked together and easier to locate.
You don't have race. It is a good time to look and see what others have done on their cars and discuss plans for the future.
I know it must sound complicated and mysterious, but it will be really easy to run, if you choose to race. It will be an absolute "gas" and a worthwhile experience should you race.
The 1/8th mile affords you the opportunity to practice on stuff and is easier on your car.
It will be cool, trust me.

It cost $10.00 per person plus $10.00 per car that races, ie 2 people and one car that will race equals $30.00.
