Help, Got funny sounds coming from engine

Ever since I drove through some deep water like a month or so ago i've been getting this intermittent ticking/tapping noise from the engine area. Sometimes faint, sometimes not so faint.

I checked the valve train and that wasnt it. Checked the pulleys and the dustshield on the flywheel and no dice.

I ended up dropping the oil pan and checking the rod bearings, they were ALL fine but i changed them anyway and I checked the bottom 1/2 of main bearings and all was in order. I retorqued everything, bolted it all back up and the noise was still there.

Its getting too damn cold to be poking around aimlessly out there what are you guys thinking?

Here are a couple of vids from the other day that show what i'm talking about (all 400-800KB each)

No noise run to 40mph: http://ruffryde.rapperdmx.com/videos/scrr-firstgear-outside.mpg

Noise after coming to a stop :

Same noise right after startup that fades away, comes and goes at random:

One of the supercoupe guys with a Taurus has seen this exact same problem before and it turned out to be something with the transmission (which has been dying slowly for years)

X, its your transmission pump, or related tq converter parts. I've seen/heard that on a sable before, that exact same sound.

The pressure riser you are using causes excessive wear on it, and I think that's why they go out.

Help I'm lost here,
thanks,

Its not the blower, i unhooked the belt and started it up so it was just the engine turning and no accessories...and the noise was still there.

Cracked flywheel??? dont see how thats even possible, I REALLY dont want to deal with pulling the engine again in the cold to find ... nothing.

any pointers?

Just a thought...

Get a stethoscope (sp) for the engine (or a solid wood broomhandle, long heavy screwdriver, etc.) and probe different locations on the block. Based on the clips you provided it doesn't sound internal to the engine, but it is difficult to know for sure. Does the ticking follow the RPM's? Check the tensioners and pulleys. If all else fails, you might also check to see if the exhaust manifolds are leaking where the flange meets the head. The water may have cause some warping. Leaking manifolds will sometimes result in a loud "ticking" sound...

Could be a cracked exhaust manifold especialy if enough water hit it while it was good and hot. I've seen several cracked.

Ok i'll give that a try. I sounds kinda metallic to me though, kinda like ti ti ti ti ti ti tack....(quiet) then repeat at random.

Its hard to say if it goes with rpms, the blower whine (even at part throttle) drowns it out above like 1500 rpms.

I'll have at look at the ex mans again today - MUCH easier than pulling the engine when its freezing out.

It does sound like it could be an exhaust leak.. a small one might be more prominent with a cold engine. Along with the manifolds, also check near the catalytic converters. Mine has an exhaust leak on the passenger side cat that I did not find until recently in the cold. The cold air steam gave it away, this will help you find one.

Another small possibility, how does your cruise work? Has it changed recently? Maybe the module is making this noise trying to engauge.
