ok does anybody elses seatbelts lock up when u brake pretty hard? or do u just keep going forward? arent the seatbelts supposed to lock up when u brake hard?
The recent Ford products that I have experienced use inertial reel locks that are sensitive to the g-loads on the car. A moderate brake application should cause the belts to lock.
When running the car at the road racing tracks, I use a moderate brake application at about 5 MPH to get the belt locked and, by using a few tricks, can keep it locked tightly around my body to help hold myself in place during the high braking and cornering loads while on track.
If the belt does not lock under braking, it should be replaced.
I noticed on my '93 (which still has the auto seat belts) that not only does the belt lock, but the seat automatically comes back up to the vertical position when braking very hard. Almost enough to crush your chest, but better than going thru the windshield.
