What kind of paint could I use to cover the trim along the upper rear windshield molding. You know the one that always peals off and the previous owner took it down to all bare metal which looks like crap. I've posted on here before where to get a replacement but never had any responses.

I think you can still get them from Ford (or atleast I hope we still can since I need to buy the front and rear). My rear is starting to peal off but my front is done to the metal. When I bought the car it came with a brand new one from Ford in the package (I still have it) but I noticed that it has alittle dent in the middle of it that I dont know if it can be reshaped or I should just get a new one.

On 4/21/03 I bought all three pieces ( 2 rear , 1 front ) moldings from my local Ford Dealer. I did have to order them. I have the part numbers but don't remember which is which , However here they are : E9SZ634204A9G $ 35.08 , E9SZ6342430A9G $ 30.71, E9SZ6303144A9G $ 28.46 . These are discounted prices, I suspect the last is the one you need as the first two have more consecutive numbers. I will gladly check with my Ford parts man if you need , to see if it is still available, Hope this is of some help. They really improved my car and were very much worth the money. Good Luck

Thanks that's just what I need. Does your dealership ship stuff, cuz this one here is a scam artist I've seen 30% higher prices here than at other stealerships.

Those mouldings are still readily available from Ford ... they fit all 89 - 97 Birds, not just SC.

Sweet! That takes a load off my chest knowing that Ford still makes those parts.

Thanks!

If you want I can check with the dealer tommorow , as with any business I am sure they will be more concerned with type of payment than anything , I am sure I can get this for you at my discount price, feel free to email me at ballsie@verizon.net

I might be interested. One other question about the moldings, can the other moldings be replaced as well (window, roof line etc)? Also, how do you replace the three windshield moldings?

Thanks!

Do you have to remove the rear window to change the moldings?

Here's another question for those of you who have had winshields replaced. Do they put new molding on there for a new windshield? They do that on most other cars. Just the regular black rubber molding would be good for me. I need a new windshield anyhow and was waiting to get the car running first.

I was just wondering also how to remove the front window molding as I am going to have to replace it also.

If you get a new window, no they will not replace the moldings.

Ive managed to remove moldings without removing the trim along the sides, but re-installing it can be a tighter squeeze, if you're afraid of bending the pieces when installing them. If you want to take off the front side moldings, they are held in place with rivets .. if you replace the front windshield, the people who do the work will remove the side trim while installing the windshield.

Window moulding removal.

1. Drill out the rivets holding on the forward roof moulding. Once those are drilled out, slide the trim out forward.

2. Open your trunk. You will see 8 or so plastic clips that hold on the lower rear glass moulding. I found that if you get a flat blade screwdriver and pry them towards the rear of the car they will slide off the studs that they are clipped to. Make sure you hold your mouth right or they will break. Once you get these off just leave the trim there loose and go to step three.

3. There are access holes in the rear interior sail panels that have plastic plugs covering them. They are next to the rear courtesy lights. Remove the plugs, look in the holes and you will see a nut. Remove the nuts from the left and right sides as they are threaded onto studs that are attached to the left and right side rear roof mouldings. There is also a tab with two barbs on it at the front of each rear roof moulding, on the outside of the car. It slides into two clips. You have to be very careful when removing the moulding at this step or you will brake the barbs. It's best if you remove the left and right rear side mouldings from back to front as there are only clips that hold the mouldings on as they go down the side of the rear window. Just gently start prying up the the moulding, beginning where it meets the lower rear glass moulding. It should pop up out of the retaining clips. The mouldings will bend easily, so be patient. After you pop the left and right mouldings out of their clips at the rear, slowly work the trim forward to release the tab with barbs from its clips. Don't pull on it as the barbs will break.

4. After all 4 side mouldings are off, the front glass moulding and the rear upper glass moulding should just pop of with a little prying. They are just held in with clips.

You don't have to remove any glass to get the mouldings off and you can buy the rivets that you drilled out to get the forward moulding off at any auto parts store. I hope this all makes sense. If not, I have some pictures.:D

I use a chisel and hammer to punch the heads off the rivets quicker, just be careful. Or use the drill if you are worried .. either way, the door rubber piece covers the trim anyways.
The auto glass installers use rivets with Black heads on them to match the trim piece, but aluminum works just fine also.
