View Full Version : got my coolant resivor tank for my allen installed

I installed my intercooler resivor tank today. I have the allen engine supercharger system and part of the problem is that there is very limited coolant capacity for the intercooler system. It holds 2/3 of a gallon stock. The problem with that is when you start getting under boost the limitede amount of coolant in the system becomes heat soaked in seconds. What happens is the act goes up and the power goes down because the computer pulls timing from the car. If you had a larger body of coolant you could put heat into till it could be removed by the heat exchanger you could stay into the boost longer and have much more consistant ACT in the quater mile. I also got a lincoln mark 8 oil pan for my bird. It holds 6 quarts of oil. I would have used a 7 qyart mustang pan but it won't clear the K member. The sensor is a oil level sensor and the kickout is for extra oil

now just add another cooler inline with that under the car. :) Nothing like overkill

Where did you get the tank from? What size hose did you use and is the hose run through the inside of the car or underneath the car along the frame/body? I have a liquid to air intercooler on my sc and am looking into a larger cooling reservoir.

Okay, I understand about the coolant tank, but what's that thing on the side of the oil pan have to do with the liquid intercooler ?

I like that oil pan! It looks retarded but that is some nice baffling inside it. Does the Tbird one have any baffling? I'm sure it doesn't. :rolleyes:

The fuel cell is a rci allumnim unit I got from summit racing equipment. The 4 gallon one is the only one with out a sump. I took out the foam had 2 an8 fittings replaced with an12 fittings and the lid welded shut since it is goig to be presureized. I ran one line down the passanger side and one down the driverside. I used 3/4 inch heater hose. I had previously cu a hole on the driverside below and toward the left of the brake booster and I used that one for the return to the intercooler. There is a very large rubber grommet on the passanger side behind the ac. If you are looking from the front of the car it is to the right and just below the engine wiring that comes through the firewall. If you want you can run both lines through it with no problem. I notched one of my sc shock cover caps to better route the hose. I also have a aditional lightning intercooler pump back there to help flow considering how much extra length of hose you have to push fluid through. I used almost 50 ft of heater hose. the lines are run inside the car through the wiring harness tract. that runs beside the seat.

The standard pan has some baffling in it along with the crank scraper.

SHould your coolant actually get hot enough to be pressurized???

what did the pan cost ya? and how much is the total capacity with the growth on the side. I have a cooler that is in front of the rad and I think its an extra qt.

The tank will be pressureized plus the force of the pressure of coolant being forced up from the bottom out through the top. The tank build some pressure as it tempeture comes up.

The oil pan holds 6 quarts so if your cooler holds 1 quart it will give you 7 quarts capacity. The pan cost me 65.00 plus shiping used. A new one is 180.00. I found some salvages that wanted almost as much for a new one and did not want to deal so i told them what they could do with it. Check out car-part.com

That oil pan is for the 4.6L engines.
