We are all here constantly thinking of ways to dramatically improve acceleration and top end performance of the SC, but what mods would be considered to have the most dramatic effect in terms of "seat of the pants"?
Our cars are generally lacking in two basic areas; low leverage (effects of tall gearing+low horsepower at higher rpms=low torque at the wheels at higher rpms) and too much weight.
Seems like there is nothing much you can do to make the SC dramatically faster aside from fully building up the 3.8 for extreme abuse or installing a small/big block v8 w- turbo.
Since this is the case for poor people like me (i don't have the money for a major buildup), can anyone suggest what bolt ons or combination of bolt ons are best to maximize on what the SC is all about? It is a "bottom end" car, where the advantage comes in from how you launch it.
My car has a good number of mods, including some custom mods, (it runs in the high 14's) but with an AOD do i need to start looking at torque converters? Is the magnum powers stuff worth it?
Since all of the torque is down low (below 3.5k rpms) do i need to enhance this area? because of the steep gearing, power increase would have to be tremendous in this area for any big torque to be transmitted to the wheels (i don't think this is possible). it seems that if you install the typical mods that move the torque band higher (like magnum powers) is just trading off some low end for a slightly better high end (slightly, if you consider the weight that has to be overcomed). it doen't seem like it would feel significantly better, just improvements here and there.
Anyone here that can share their experiences with the "typical mods"?
sorry about the thousand questions-
