Get ready for car show season with this dress up (and
hp saving) stock size aluminum pulley kit from SCI !
www.supercoupeinnovations.com
The following is the SCI description of the kit:
This kit includes the following pulleys:
Crank shaft
Water pump
Alternator
This is the only stock diameter kit available for the
SC out there. The weight of the stock steel crank,
water pump and alternator pulley is a total of 8-3/4
pounds. Whereas the 3 SCI pulleys weigh in at only
5.02 pounds.!!! That’s a savings of over 3-1/2 pounds
of rotating mass.
The pulleys are clear anodized to help protect against
the elements and prevent belt wear. The crank pulley
is zero balanced, to bolt onto your car right out of
the box. The crank pulley also has the off center hole
mark with the letters SCI engraved above it. This will
help you line up the off center hole without guessing.

Ten people with paid orders would qualify for a
reduced price of $260. This would be a savings of $25 over the regular price. Shipping would be $25 per order.
Post here if you are serious about getting in on this GP. First we will need a list of 10 people who intend to buy and will actually go through with forking over the money. :)
If we can get ten people interested by 3/17/04, payments can then start being submitted via paypal, (the email address on the site will access the SCI PayPal account) certified cheques and money orders.
I will update with names below:
Name List :
1. Joe Brauner (1 set)
2. Doug Franklin (1 set)
3. Josh Brianas (1 set)
4. Flip (1 set)
5. Victor Malvar (1 set)
6. kamakazie_1/ RJ (1 set)

I am interested in one set maybe more. I may also want just the crank pulley to go with my other BHJs.

Although there has been some interest in the crank pulley by itself, right now Ryan of SCI is only offering the set. In the future he may just sell the crank pulley alone, but for now he doesn't want to break up the set of three...
Doug, I will add you name to the list, post back if for some reason you change your mind or are unable to follow through.

thats the same size as stock alt. pulley exact?
I would be interested if so

Yes the alt pulley is the same diameter. Paypal can let you use your credit card. As stated above, those are the only forms of payments I would accept.
joenintiesc, thank you for your time to set this up. I'll do my best to keep an eye out for questions that I can answer.
Doug, in the future I may offer the crank only in the stock size, it seems to be an option I must look at.

the jack shaft pulley that you sell
is that also the same as stock size?
will it work fine with a 5 % blower pulley?
and if so--can it be included with the rest of the pulley set?
thanks Josh
joenintiesc
03-04-2004, 11:37 AM
The js pulley is the same size as stock, only lighter. I'm using it now with a 5% blower pulley with no problems.
The group buy is for the pulley set as described. When you say "can it be included...?", if you mean can you run all four pullies together on your engine plus a 5%, the answer is yes.
Brianas
03-04-2004, 12:16 PM
thanks for the reply
what will the total price be for the set of 4 pulleys and
a rough estimate on shipping
whats the time frame? within a month?
thanks Josh
Question? How do these compare to the SPC pulley set? Is it just the finish? Looking to buy just trying to find out the facts, Thanks, Flip
joenintiesc
03-04-2004, 09:05 PM
This is the only stock diameter kit available for the SC out there
When you say "SPC pulley set", are you really referring to the SCP pulley set?
If so, that set is an "underdrive" pully set. The water pump and alternator pullies are actually larger than the stock size in an underdrive pulley, and turn the water pump and alt. slower than a stock pulley, thus freeing up a small amount of hp. Some people do not like the idea of underdriving, or slowing down, the alternator and water pump.
The pullies in this group buy, though not underdrive, are still lighter than the stock pullies, which should still free up a small amount of hp as well.
10-4 That was a typo on my part, I understand what you mean about the diff. Thanks, Flip

Hey Flip, Dan and Bryan and JJ and I bought the SCI jackshaft pulley a while back... I'm sure Bryan got his on, really nice piece of work, I'm ordering the rest of the SCI pulleys for my 95 along with the hartland tensioner pulleys and the two piece PS pulley set...

Subscribing to the thread. I am considering the purchase of these but not ready to commit 100% right at this moment.
Flip... I do have the SCI JS pulley on my car. Very nice workmanship on the part and would highly recommend it to anyone considering one.

Add my name on the list, wished I gotten on the list for the JS Pully. Thanks,

Hi Joe, I am also interested in the pulley set. This will go well with my new Projet car. Count me in. The shipping seems a little high for a such light weight item. I am still in! Is the insurance included? This is something to think about... If it gets lost some people would be upset. This fee also covers the cost of shipping it. It should be included in the price. It's very inexpensive usually o.60 per $100.00 dollars. That is nothing compared to the price of the pulleys. If they are not included in the price,I would like to request insurance on mine. A tracking number would also be real beneficial to all.We insure everything we ship at our cost. It saves headaches. Just trying to cover all the bases. Good Work! Victor & Diane

Please keep in mind that these are shipping from Canada. I will check with Ryan on the shipping insurance and get back to everyone.
5 more to go and we all save $25! :)
Ryan A Harris
03-06-2004, 12:10 AM
Yes, insurnace is covered in the cost of the shipping and handling. I have to pay a little more, because I have to ship from Canada. A tracking number can also be given to anyone who would like one. It takes between 7-10 business days for delivery. I have only had trouble when sending to Hawaii, that took about 2 months, Canada post says that was normal for that shippment(yeah right).
Brianas, time frame for the shipping will ASAP. once we have the names, payment, I'll ship rigth away. I can ship the J/S along with the other pullies. The shipping would only be a small amount more, because the box is heavier.
Thanks to all those who have taken out the time say some nice words about my pullies.

So I may be in for three I'm trying to help two SC customers. I told them I'm not selling them. I told them to go to the Group buy but they replied they are not paid up. They are good paying customers of ours. I will get them to place their orders. This is going well! Thanks for the answere Ryan! I am just being the devils advocate, so you do not encouter problems later! I 'm not being negative. I am also interested in the jack shaft pulley and a 5% Pulley. I am trying to buy 10 or twenty to have in stock! Joe I will speak to you tomorrow Found out some other info!

Flip,
I don't think Ryan sells a 5% blower pulley at this time. In the near future he will be selling a 5% js pulley (which would be the equivalent of a 5% blower pulley), and a 10% blower pulley, but I don't believe they are available yet.
If you purchased the js pulley at the same time, the savings would be in the $5-10 range on shipping on the js pulley.
Yea, your right he doesn’t sell a 5% pulley, thought he did. I already have a 5% pulley, but wanted one of his to match the other pulleys. I’ll just order the JS pulley with the other set. Thanks for the info.

What type of aluminum is the pulley made from. What about different colors? Red??? or Black???

The pulleys are clear anodized to help protect against the elements and prevent belt wear.
Rich I will add your name to the list in the first post. Hopefully Ryan will chime in with the type of aluminum, if not I'll e-mail him.

do you have a comparison betwen March, stock and SCI pulleys or the weigth of each pulley?
yes theres a comparison of the total but i need one of each pulley , to see if its worth changin from my ASP/March combo to the SCI combo.
btw this works with the BHJ balancer rigth?

If "mar" means "March", I don't know the weights of their pullies. The weight differences between stock and SCI was given in the very first post.

Ok, the aluminum is 6061 T6. Colours are not option. Just the clear annodize. I have found out that if I do use any colours, they will not match the reds or blues that are out there, unless they all are done at the same place. I do have a full list of comparisions weights at home(I'm on lunch at work right now). I can list them for you guys, no trouble. I don't have any dyno #'s on this set as of yet, I do plan on that along with the underdrives. I would like for the gusy to send payments, then I can ship out. Also to make things easier on me for time, can you guys email your shipping addresses. This way I can pre-pack everything, and ship all 10 out on the same day. Would that be good fro everyone?

The super coupe innovations email please, I have deleted that ohter address. I also missed a qusetion posted above. Yes these will work the BHJ harmaonic balancers, along with the stock units from FORD.
The following are the weight comparisions. Now please notice that the ASP & MARCH sets are a underdrive kit, and the crank is quit alot smaller than the stock diameter pulley. The other sets are not fully CNC machined from billet aluminum.
ASP:
(Aluminum)Crank 2.80 Pounds
(steel)Water Pump 2.15 Pounds
(Steel)Alternator .090 Pounds
MARCH:
Crank 3.25 Pounds
Water Pump 1.15 Pounds
Alternator 0.45 pounds
Stock:
Crank 6.50 Pounds
Water Pump 1.70 Pounds
Alternator .60 Pounds
Super Coupe Innovations:
Stock Crank 3.95 Pounds
Water Pump 1.05 Pounds
Alternator .20 Pounds
Hope that helps.

Thanks Ryan! I can't wait to install these to reduce some more rotating mass on my engine.
Do you have any plans on making a lightweight power steering pump pulley? The only one I know of is the Heartland one. I'm a little hesitant purchasing theirs because of the quality issues with their tensioner pulleys. Your products are top quality and would buy one in a heartbeat!
Bryan

03-16-2004, 10:39 AM
What are the quality issues witht the Heartland tensioner pullies?
SuperChicken89
03-16-2004, 12:10 PM
It was like they forgot to finish them. The face of them had rough machining marks and the front/back edges had the gouges. These gouges almost looked like the saw cuts where each had been separated from the bar stock. Had to put them in a lathe to refinish the face of the pulleys. Definitely not show quality. I don't know if anyone else had issues like this with theirs. Nowhere near the quality of SCI's products.

SuperChicken89, I don't have any palns on making a P/S pulley. I have seen what you are talking about on those pullies. I local memeber had one at meet, and I was able to sneak a look. Nice pulleys Ryan, just got mine!! Good work dude :D :D
Rich Thomson

I got my SCI pulley kit today but the alt pulley did not have the same backspacing as the stock. The picture is below. Others please check your Alt pulley backspacing. It is very easy to see if the two match. My car is a 1994. Please post your results here. I have spoken to Ryan already and he wanted to get feedback on the ALT pulley differences.
I checked my belt alignment with the stock ALT pulley and it is correct. Since the Alt has a 1993 part number maybe pre 1993 Alt had a different pulley. Since the pulley does not have a part number we have to compare the dimentions.

Got mine today and alt looks like yours, short. Have not pulled a stock pulley. I have a 90 engine out. Is there a diference in yrs on alt pulley? I have a 95 and 91, the rest are 89-90.
kamakazie_1
03-25-2004, 08:16 AM
Hey Rich, I'll look when I go home for lunch, I didn't see this till to late to check.. I've got a 95 Alt. off the car and the pulley is off of it. I've got a 90 Alt. on my 95 right now and that's what I'd intended to use these new pulleys on.. I hope this works out..
Ryan, you want to weigh in on this conversation??
RJ
Ryan A Harris
03-25-2004, 12:10 PM
I talked with Rich about this last night. I do need to fix this for anyone who has the 94-95's. My car is a 95, I have no trouble with the alt. pulley at all. I guess before I had purchased my car, the alt. had been changed. I have had alt troubles this winter and I'm on my 3rd one, due to troubles with the electrical system. All the pulleys have fit on with no trouble, so I think that the early alt on your 95 will be fine RJ.
What I would like to do on this for you guys, is have one of those 94-95 pulleys send to me, then I can take the dimensions I need, and make a spacer(washer). I'll send them out on an over-night to all who need it. Can someone send one to me? This would make things move ahead really well.
This was a mistake on my part, and I'm sorry about this. I will fix it as fast as I can for you guys. What I will do from now on, will be enclude the spacer with eack kit, weather you need it or not. Then down the road if you get a re-build alt, you may need this spacer, which you will then have.
Thanks.

Ryan, just make up a .200" shim and it will fix your troubles. There is going to be some variance from unit to unit due to casting core shift and assembly routines of the alternator so that # will work universally without any issues.

Thanks for your input Paul, I understand what you mean. I know that any recore can have any mix of parts from any year alt. Thats why I hoping one of the guys with a 94-95 pulley can send me one, I can see whats up from there.
Again, Paul thanks for your input and time.

I've got one off this junk Alt. Ryan, that one of Rich's looked way to pretty to send off.. I've never sent anything to Canada what's involved with getting it to you.. I'll look when I get home for lunch just to make sure the original one off my 95 look like Rich's. (Just not as clean looking :D)

Hey Ryan, the pulley off my original 95 alternator is in fact as Rich's is larger, I'm not ready to put the pulleys on my 95 yet so I haven't pulled that replacement alternator pulley off and looked at it yet.
I do have this one off to send to you if you like, email me and address and info.. kamakazie_1@hotmail.com

kamakazie_1, That would be great. I'm at work so I'll email you my details for shipping later tonight, once I get home.
Brianas, that is basically what I'm going to make. But out of Aluminum.

I'll try my best to explain them. With the shaft of the newer style ALTS being longer, I had to make the distance from the bottom of the bore to the end of the pulley(where it stops against the ALT) longer. Now that difference was .165 thousandths of an inch, which is what the spacer is, with a tolerance of + or - .005 thousandths of inch. I did not annodize it, because the belt does run on this spacer. I have send it out to everyone who was in on this group buy.
I hope that was clear, its hard to expalin somethings like this by typing.
