changing water pump

Hello:

I need to change out the water pump in my 1990 SC (200,000 miles!), and would like to not remove the intercooler---I had alot of trouble resealing the IC tubes the last time, and I don't want to go through that hassle again.

Is there someway to get the power steering pump bracket clear of the water pump without removing the IC? Is it possible to remove the PS pump pulley, or loosen the alternator/PS pump bracket so I can work the water pump free, without removing the IC?

Thanks for any advice.

It can be done.

Your fate is in the hands of the ps pump pulley puller. The puller I rented was just small enough to get the pulley off without touching the IC. Some pullers are too big for this.

good luck

Yes it can be done. I've replaced 3 or 4 water pumps without ever removing the intercooler or the power steering pump pulley. The hardest part is getting at that stupid bolt on the bracket that's under the pulley. I do however remove the top IC tube.
