dont know if anyone was following my lost tranny problem on tbu the last week or 2 but fed ex had lost the tranny between orlando and ft lauderdale..then thought it was on its way to utah and traced it out there, found out it was the wrong one, and went looking again, they found it sitting at the ft lauderdale terminal without a barcode...and are finally getting it to me today...a friend of mine and i are installing it this weekend, i hope all goes well.

actually it never went to utah, that was the wrong one, the one they were chasing, it never even left ft lauderdale... it was sitting 3.42 miles from my apartment for the last week  and thats not all.. they tried delivering it today and it was refused.....by the wrong person at the wrong address
somehow they managed to get the shipping address wrong, which is wierd because the seller put teh same shipping address on the torque converter, and it got to where it was supposed to be.....fed ex is a bunch of dumb****s...so now i gotta drive down to the fed x office myself, and hope the damn 4 foot by 2 foot crate fits in the sc, and cart it around in my trunk or backseat until tomorrow night when i drive out to weston to have it put in....

ack what a nightmare.... at least fed ex is refunding me the $59 for shipping and the $20 drop ship cost for my aggrivation.

They are idiots Peter, I have the same types of problems here in Titusville at the office, they couldn't get it right unless someone flagged them in off the road..

I got PCs and printers in from one of my vendors one day, the driver has a 9 1/2 mile dirt road on the route before he gets to us.. The seal on the back of the door was bad so I had half an inch of dirt on top of all my electronic equipment just cause the guy wanted to go that way first... There were drive cables loose and everything inside the PCs when we got them in. I complained to FedEx to no avail, and then told my vendor that I'd refuse every order he sent me on FedEx from that day on. From that day on UPS is the only way I get my shipments...

Check it over good Peter, the AOD that I got from Sunny627 a year and a half ago looked like they dropped it from altitude before they through it in the truck.. Bellhousing shattered, tail shaft housing was shattered... that was $550 out the window for sure..

Pete, I'm really keeping my fingers crossed on this for you, especially after reading RJ's historical perspective on his.

I complained about my Lenech 1-2 shift a lot (which I fixed fortunately) but man... I can't complain on the delivery compared to the stuff I'm hearing from you guys. Lentech shipped it to me in 5 days, intact, from Canada.

Guess I'm luckier than I thought.

we took the tranny out of the box tonight and inspected it, no visable damage anywhere... its freshly painted with brand new seals and a brand new input shaft.. we're putting it in tomorrow night.

hp aod with:
4r70w wide ratio gear set
2" od band
lentech style 1-2-3+4 valve body (1 is 1, D is 1-2 od is 1-2-3+4 which means it stays in 3rd at wot, wont shift to 4th until you are under 3/4 throttle)
im also putting in a 1900-2300 stall converter.

oh it also has additional clutches, and of course the SC A servo.

it should be a pretty bulletproof tranny, i hope that input shaft is hardened, but i dont know if it is... it is a 2 piece. and the TC is a locking one.

But the guy that built it, never truely knew exactly what he was doing, that and he screwed up the Valve body pretty nicely..
but you get what yah pay for i guess.. it was only like $1400cdn..

Mine was Built near me on the west coast of Canada :)

Mind you i only had a stage 1 shift kit in it, which was still able to get @10-15' of rubber when it hammered 2nd on a good day (my car has bad days and good days :) ) and even chirp 3rd on a very good day :p

but if yah want a AOD paper weight let me know :)

pdennis93,
I was just looking at a trans on EBay that fits that description. Lincolnton, NC and seller is listed as jimmywholesell. Do you know something about this seller or trans either good or bad? I was looking at a few different ones.

jimmywholesale IS the person i bought th trans from

the trans itself is ok, but it took forever to get it, almost 2 months, they were having parts problems due to the weather up north though....for my inconvienence they did give me a 2300 stall converter at their cost $150 shipped...

i only put 1200 miles on the tranny before wrecking the car, and now i dont know if im gonna fix it or not....

back to the tranny, it shifts HARD, it will bark the tires at over 1/3 throttle on the 1-2 shift... i have somewhat cheapo touring tires on it though...
the vb is full manual 1 is 1 D is 2 and od is 3+4 with od being locked out if your over 3/4 throttle...

i had a problem with mine when i got it, it didnt have the shifter linkage on it which we tried putting on and didnt get on right so i had to have it towed to a shop and spend $350 getting the shifter linkage put in right.....also the tailshaft housing was for a mustang or something cause the housing was slightly too long, so we had to swap TS housings.

Thanks, that's good info. That's not the first time I've heard about stang linkage and tailshaft housing shipping with a Tbird AOD trans. Other than the linkage/TS housing issue, did you like the trans and was it good quality?

I'm actually considering selling my SC with the ailing AOD and buying a 5-speed I've been looking at, but I'm not sure yet.

other than the TS and linkage issue it was pretty good, it shifts kind of hard, but then again thats i guess what a built AOD is all about... the speedo is off though, i gauged it the other day, if im going 45mph on my speedo, the "you are going XX mph" sign says 36

so its around 25percent off at 45, and probably more higher up.

Sounds like the transmission has the wrong internal speedo gear. You might be able to compensate with a different size external gear. If you actually want to change the internal gear, I think you have to take the transmission apart. Or you can get a cyberdyne electronic speedo calibrator like I have (if it's still available) and dial in the correct speed.

eh, not gonna worry about it, after i get the trans am, ill just let whoever buys teh car and fixes it or parts it out about the speedo

Just a thought, but doesn't the mustang have different rear gears than the SC. If it came with mustang linkage and TS housing, maybe it also came with mustang correct speedo gears rather than SC correct.

That does, however, sound like what I'm looking for in a trans. Just out of curiosity, with the SVO wide ratio kit, does it fall flat on its face on the 2-3 shift due to the more extreme ratio change from second to third.

pdennis93
04-28-2004, 12:38 PM
i wouldnt say "Falls flat on its face" but yeah it does shift from 2-3 and then its like 'where did the acceleration go?"
