What is the octane pin and what does it do? I am runnung 100 octane at the track is this helping me or not? Thanks

With the octane pin removed, the EEC pulls 4 degrees of timing across the board.

i dont mean to highjack the thread but does pulling the pin retard the ignition 4deg from idle to wot...or just wot? Because when i have a timing light on the motor and pull the plug there is no change. If i pull the spout connector then there is a change. I'm thinking about raising the hp of my nitrous kit but they say to retard the ignition 4 deg, and i think the octain plug is the way to do it, but i dont want to retard the timing at idle and part throttle, just full throttle when the nitrous is being used. Anyone want to clear this up for us?
