I keep searching for good definitions of each but it is hard to find. I'm sure a few are the same thing, but I would like to know technically what they are.

Here is what I got. There are 2 classifications: 1)before the spark plug fires and 2) after.

1)Knock, due to bad timing, the spark plugs fires to quickly before TDC
Ping??? similar to Knock?
Preignition, the fuel instaneously combusts before ingnition. Will surely cause knock or ping?

2) Detonation is an uncontrolled burn of the fuel after the spark plug fires. The fuel burns too quickly, probably very lean.

Alright, correct my mistakes.

what helped most with my pinging was fix egr transducer colder plugs and colder thermostat and 93 octane pinging is hard on headgaskets
