I have a friend who got his 1991 camaro z28 painted there, and they did a great job for 500$. Just dont expect the paint to last 5+ years, my friends is about 2 1/2 years old and still looks great though. You just have to keep goig up to macco and make sure they are doing it right.

macco CAN do a good job.
just remember one thing: you get what you pay for.

Slipcoupe is right! I have gotten several estimates from Maaco, as low as $200 all the way up to $1200. It seems to me that what you are paying for is the better quality of paint. I believe you get the same skill level with any paint job. I've noticed that they paint cars all day, every day, and they KNOW how to get good results.(no runs, very little overspray). The booths are VERY clean, and they DO bake-on the finish. Personally, I am opting for an $800 level paint job, as my cars ARE used every day, and WHY subject a $3,000 diamond-dust/crushed-glass irridecent flip-flop paint job behind a cement mixer and a gravel truck doing 90 on the freeway!

I've had 2 cars painted at Maaco and I've never seen a good Maaco paint job. Just check out some of the cars that have been painted that are parked around the shop. Some shops are better than others but I've never seen a Maaco paint job without dust, dirt, fisheyes, runs or some kind of flaw. Most of the time they will tape around trim instead of taking it off and you can see where the tape was. The price is really attractive though. I need my SC painted and the estimates that I've been getting for a "good" paint job have all been around $3000. So the $500 paint job is tempting if you don't the flaws.

My experience with MAACO is that they are pretty good at the actual spraying of the car, but they are lacking in masking and prep work. Which makes sence if you think about it; time is money. What I did with one of my cars is to do the prep work yourself- the taping, masking of all the lenses, etc. I then got the best quality paint that I could (Imron), and asked to speak to the technician that was going to work on my car. I took a $50 bill, tore it in half, and told him the other half was his if he does a really good job on my car. He was so stoked! :)
My car turned out great, and he was psyched about the $50 under the table bonus.
Good luck.

Youve got it right , My fater and i were at an eral shibe ,but used our own paint ( ditzler or house of color) and tipped the sprayer.Talk about a awsome job , but that was a long time ago.A good sprayer is what you need to look for and can be motivated by money .

i work at a body shop, i have seen macco jobs, they all look like crap. i even know someone who went to macco, got an estimate for like 500. but by the time the car was painted the bill was up to like 1500 or something, and it still looked like crap. we do great paint jobs for about 3000. please dont ruin your car by taking it to some crap place, its more work to repaint a bad job than to start from scratch.

My father owns a paint shop and I work there too. Paint jobs are 90% about the prep work. The more time spent BEFORE the paint goes on, the better it will turn out. I know we do Scratch and shoot jobs from 800-1100 and we do show jobs (painted twice NO FLAWS...period) for 2500-XXXX depending on how much work the car needs. But in the end it is all about prep work!!!

i do paint and bodywork. going to maiico is a pretty dumb idea. you have to think. if your buying good materials. paint alone will cost you more than 500. you still have to sand it prime do bodywork on spots and so on. you get what you pay for. 500 there throwing you cheap single stage with no kind of sanding so what is the paint going to stick too. nothing therefore 6 months later bye bye to your paint. if you want cheap dont care paint job then goto maiico. if you want something nice. you might want to try another shop.

MAACO is just like any other franchise chain. There are good ones and bad ones. Just as an example, I will NOT go to the KFC here in town as it is filthy, nasty and the service is lousy. But one is another town may be excellent. Same with MAACO. It is a chain that sells a name. The person running the particular store is what makes it good or bad. I had my last T-Bird painted there, and also a Firebird. Did a very nice job and went out of thier way to make sure it was right. Just like any other shop that is going to work on your car, check them out based on individual merit. Not the name out front.

I would also have to defend Maaco. You can't say they ALL suck because ONE may suck. As 'traveler' said, they are a franchise that people run, therefore they make the shop what it is, but that doens't mean they are ALL like that. My car was painted by Maaco, and it came out very nice. I did some of the work myself, taking some things apart, but they did everything else, and my car was a delam. So don't knock on things you have no experience with personally (one Maaco isn't like ALL the other Maacos).
I also took in my own paint, PPG, for them to use instead of whatever they use. Base black, clear, and blue pearl to use.
Best thing to do, is look around, ask around your area, and see what kind of work they do...that goes for ANY shop.... not just Maaco
