Thanks for the kind words Dan!
It was my pleasure to help a fellow SC'er keep his car stock and working like new. I know a lot of people prefer to upgrade with new technology but for those who prefer stock units that look and work like new, (I do) I am glad to offer them that opportunity at a reasonable price.
Take care,

2time do you take on more work? Would you also fix a Mach 460 out of a 95 Mustang? I have plenty of SCs that work. It is wife's Stang that has a button not working and there is static that may just be a condenser on distributor needing replaced, which I can do. Buttons have black wore thru to white and number 2 does not work at all.
Also do you have any bird JBL radios for sale? I have 2 SCs with JBL system but radio was gone when I bought them.
Where are you located, etc, etc.

Hello Turbospeed,
I do have some already reconditioned units for sale and several that are awaiting my attention. All of the ones I have at the moment are Premium Sound/JBL radios and CD Players for '89-'93 cars. I dont mess with standard Non-Premium radios at the moment.
On radios, just let me know whether you need:
A) Factory CD Player compatible or not
B) Built in clock accessed via button # 6 or not
C) Green or Blue display and backlighting
On CD Players, just let me know whether you need:
A) Silver buttons ('89 and some '90 cars)
B) Black buttons (some '90 and '91-'93)
When I get done with them they do accept SOME brands of CD-Rs. The brand that works best is Kodak Ultima silver or gold. Imation seems to work well also. Somtimes Philips does as well. It all depends on two factors, the reflectivity and the recordable dye type used in them. Any with a Blue or Green tint on the recording side will not work. If the recording side is silver(ish), they stand a good chance of being playable. Kodaks are without a doubt the best but they have been discontinued however, you can usually find them on eBay. I recently picked up 250 of them from eBay at a great price. Imations are available at Walmart.

Doug,
I typically don't take on Mach 460 systems but in your case, I would be willing to help you out.
I do have reconditioned Premium Sound/JBL units for sale. Just fire me an email at polyscroll@hotmail.com and I'll fill you in on the details.
I will be posting a standard form letter for all to see regarding my repair work that should help clarify what I do and charge.
Thanks, TwoTimeSC

I repair / recondition both CD Players and Radios as a hobby I enjoy and as a way of paying for my childrens' schooling. I am not an official bussiness. Just trying to help out fellow Ford owners keep their special vehicles stock and like new again. There are virtually no repair shops in the country that will touch these things anymore and the one that I know of wants up to $200 ea to repair radios and CD Players. Trouble is that they only replace what is currently bad and not everything that could go bad in the future. So they don't last too long before they start to exhibit other sysmptoms. Finding one that still works like new is an extremely rare find.
Right now, I only repair the '89-'93 CD Players and Radios found in T-Birds and other vehicles for a flat rate of $95 to go through the whole thing or $175 to go through two. (I got tired of buying defective units on eBay to replace the one in my '90 Super Coupe so I decided to repair them myself!) You pay for shipping to me, I pay for US Postal Priority shipping back to you. I do require Money Order, Cashier's Check, or Personal Check to be shipped with the Units) but will not cash them until I hear back from you that you are 100% satisfied with my work. I take a lot of pride in what I do and if you should experience any issues WHATSOEVER, I will take care of you IMMEDIATELY totally at my cost...even all return shipping to me. (I have only had 5 out of over 225 that I had to go over again)
On CD Players, I would be replacing all bad and "sub-standard" components in the power supply module and on the main board that Sony put in, replace all of the panel lamps, re-glue the face plate mask down (If needed), replace the transport drive gear (If needed), replace the Laser Pick-Up (if needed), and adjust Laser tracking and focus controls to play the widest array of CD-Rs possible. (Of course it would play ALL commercial, store bought CDs)
On the Radios, I replace components on the main board, pre-amp/tone control board and in the tuner. I'll replace the cassette mechanism if needed (or adjust head azimuth clean and de-mag for best high frequency response) and the front panel if needed (or re-coat the button switch contacts with a new rubberized conductive coating that won't flake off like the original coating), and also retune the AM and FM sections for best reception.
I test them both at the temperature extremes of 20 -120 degrees F to simulate extreme conditions in your car. (Oh, and clean & lubricate them too.) I then guarantee them for 6 months. Basically, I would repair whatever needs repair and upgrade all faulty components with ones that are better than the originals.
More and more I'm finding out from others that no one wants to touch these things any more. They can't get replacement Power Supplies or boards or other parts from Sony or Ford any longer. It's all been obsoleted. I don't swap-out the electronics with other old boards that are still prone to failure...I repair it and I have found alternate sources for other parts such as gears that have a tendency to split with age.
I have repaired over 225 CD Players and Radios to date and 95% of them fail due to leaking electrolytic capacitors. When working correctly, these Premium Sound / JBL systems sound pretty awsome.
Just let me know if interested at polyscroll@hotmail.com.
Sincerely,
Paul Protos (TwoTimeSC)

Hello, Paul.
Not knowing exactly how you prefer things, may I ask if you would like me to mention your repair of these radios on the Registry site? There are many people who go to it to peruse or whatever and are not members of any clubs, just 35th owners or enthusiasts. They would not hear of you if they don't come to this board. I would love to be able to send them your way. In fact I have a couple of units I might like to ship to you for you to repair. Please advise as to your desire and I will do as you ask. Please email me at webmaster@35ththunderbirdregistry.org .
Thanks for helping out SC'ers who need this service.
Happy Easter to everyone.

Hello, I would like to send you mine but not quite sure if it's the radio that's the problem, I have no sound but the power comes on. I bought a radio from a guy on this forum and it's the same deal with that. Could I have two bad radios? Or could the amp be bad. I want to leave this car stock because it's the fisrt SC I ever owned that didn't have the JBL sound gutted. And I have no CD player either. How much do you sell them for and is it compatible with my radio that didn't have the CD?

35TH T-Bird SC:
The Premium Sound radios in '89-'93 SCs came with or without CD Player interface inside. If it has the CD Player interface, it will not output audio to the amp without the CD Player connected and powered up. (It is possible to jumper certain connector pins to bypass the CD loopback circuit)
What are the Ford Part Numbers on the side of the Radios? This is the only sure-fire way to tell.

I'm missing a part no. sticker for one radio. I think this is for the replacement one I bought.
E9SF-19B165-FA I think I remember seeing this one as being different numbers from my stock one I had in the car.
So what your saying is that my second radio could be good if I jump some wires because it could have been a radio set up with a CD player?
TwoTimeSC

E9SF-19B165-FA and E9SF-19B165-BC are both listed as having the CD Player interface built-in
E9SF-19B165-HA and E9SF-19B165-JA are both listed as NOT having the CD Player interface built-in
If you have a CD-capable radio installed without being connected to the factory CD Player, you must have a special jumper plug installed on the back of the radio to hear anything.

Thanks, can I go by the instruction on the 35th Anny website to do the jumper wiring? My replacement radio looks to be for the CD setup. How much do you sell the CD players for? Maybe I could just put one in with this new radio.

I just had my JBL premium radio and a CD restored by Paul and installed it yesterday. Both units look and sound PERFECT. Sound just like new and quality repair. I too tried buying used units but couldn't find one that worked right. I recommend anyone wanting to restore stock JBL units to use Paul. A great guy.....

Many THANKS to all of the people I've been able to help out. The feedback you give makes all the arduous hours of desoldering dozens of components worthwhile!
(TwoTimeSC)
P.S. I now can convert "Non-CD capable" radios to be "CD capable" and vice-versa should you have the need.
