for $500. Has blown head gasket, but still runs. I couldn't pass up the deal! It's in decent shape, especially for the price. I'm going to tow it back to Phoenix (from San Diego) and fix it up, probably port the heads a little and throw on some new gaskets. Can't wait to get it rolling.

Here's some pictures. I got it torn down, definitely blown gasket - also one of the rockers was not bolted down all the way  . Engine doesn't look too bad, the cylinders don't have hardly any steps, but the walls have a glazed appearance and there's no sign of the original honing marks. It looks like it has new heads, the heads have been off before for sure. Could torquing the head bolts too much cause head gasket failure? Manual specs 60ft lb (seems low for head bolts), these bolts had to be around 80-100.

If it's an 89 theres a very good chance the heads have been off before these cars can pop some HG's.....If it still has factory exhaust lose it fast! as far as the torqe specs on these thing these are TTY (Torque To Yield) one time use head bolts pretty common in Fords and GM's these days. I dont have the specs with me right now as I'm at work and my Haynes manual is at home but I would recommend getting a manual for yourself anyway...15 bucks at autozone you can get the headbolts there too. You buy them per side. Good luck looks like you got it well in hand there.

It has 166k miles. I like the color too, the trunk, rear bumper, and roof need to be painted though.
I'm thinking of putting in a better flowing muffler where the resonator is and ditching the rear mufflers.

Your are very lucky dude. A car in that good of condition for only $500 is an awesome deal. Theres one around here thats the same color and has a for sale sign in it but its not for sale. The guy is a moron and the engine is torn apart and the body is in pretty bad condition
