Greetings,
It's my first SC (but third Thunderbird.) The classified ad read "1993 TBird SC, cracked head, $500..." Well, I have a parts car available (That's another story.) and decided I could get this junker on the road reasonably cheap.

Went to look at the car and it was in GREAT shape. ...so I grabbed it.

Once home, I looked it over, filled the radiator and ran it around the yard some. It overheated and blew the drain plug. Fixed that and started it again. It started getting hot and the fan never came on. Couldn't find the relays so, since a had a spare fan, I tossed that in. Now the fan works and the car's not overheating.

In the last week (roughly 100 miles) I've only added about a cup of coolant and that was on the second day. I'm still hesitant to take it any distance because the previous owner's mechanic has a GREAT reputation, so it may in fact have a head/gasket problem. Time will tell. Even if I have to put a set of gaskets or heads on it, I figure I'm still coming out ahead. ...even though it does appear to be a major PITA to work on.

The worst part of the car? My wife and daughter always seem to have it.

I won't pester you with inane questions just yet. I'll dig through the archives for a while first.

Sorry to not reply sooner...

My oil has been fine throughout the "ordeal." I REALLY need to change it soon, especially after the overheating incident. ...maybe add an oil temp guage as well.

I've since run the car a few hundred miles and have lost ZERO coolant. I'm pretty well convinced that the problem is solved, although I'll be closely monitoring the coolant level for a LONG time.

My "inane" questions will begin shortly as I've not been finding answers in the archives.
