Hey guys,
Need some thoughts in diagnosing my failure to pass emissions. It is possible that the problem is my high flow cats(you can see through them), but I was told that they shouldn't be a problem and I should pass just fine. The car passed before I did my exhaust(2 years before). And it will not pass now. It smells like it is running rich, but I can't think of why.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that I have Kooks long tube headers so the O2 sensors are now about 2 feet further along the exhaust than stock. Could that have something to do with it?

Kirk,

How old are the O2 sensors? Is it possible they got banged around during the exhaust changes? I would think that any problem with those resulting from physical damage to the sensors would throw a C.E. light, but they may have only been damaged enought to affect emissions.

How old are the air filter, fuel filter, etc.?

Regards,

Sean

O2 sensors could be the problem, but I thought I would diagnose everything else that I could before dropping $80/ea on new sensors. The fuel filter, plugs and wires at the time was about 1 year old and the air filter is a new K&N.

Has the car been running 100% OK, Kirk?

Prior to me replacing the fuel line coming from the fuel filter, the car used to drop RPM's and stall at times. Sor far it hasn't done it. Vengust and I tackled the fuel line last Saturday, emissions was before that.

Could you post the numbers of what tests you failed on? not sure if it would help to narrow it down..

Kirk,

Just pay a crooked Drive Clean place $200 and they'll pass you.

Tom knows several people who do it if you need a contact.

Garnet's Turbo Coupe was done through that guy.

My car doesn't have cats, so I intend to do the same this November.

Thats also what I was going to say but...

I'll ask someone if he might know perhaps maybe how much it theoretically would cost.

Most place ask $200 for this.

Maybe if someone gets a # for someone who can pass my car they could private msg me on here :) I am sick of buying trip permits every week :) BTW if you need O2 sensors I can get them for about $40ea. I think seeing the etest result numbers could help track this down. If your car is failing HC or CO dumping 2 gal of Ethaynol(sp?) Hydrate to a full tank of gas will make pretty much anything pass (other then NOx failing). You can get it in the camping section at Crap Tire.

Is this for genuine Ford of aftermarket?

I'd be interested if that is for a Ford sensor.

I get the KEM ones for that price, I am pretty sure I can get OEM Ford ones for that price too but usually I order other parts so I just get the KEM ones. I will check a price on the OEM ones but I'm sure I got them for that price before too. I will try and find out tomorrow.
